before & after: kiran’s footstool + isla’s chairs

kiranbefore
today’s first before & after comes from kiran at inkling prints. kiran turned this sad looking, torn-up footstool into a cheerful new place for that adorable dog to sleep. thanks for sharing kiran!

[have a before & after you'd like to submit for the d*s book or website? just shoot me an email right here with your images! (we're still looking for 5 more before & afters for the book)]

Oh my goodness, I am obsessed with that green and white fabric. Against the navy blue it’s so preppy, but the print is so fun. I love how glossy the paint is as well. Perfection!

It’s a Thomas Paul fabric, available at Calico Corners, though they don’t identify the designer. I used another one in the line for a chair recently and love it so much!

Isla, could you share how you did the open back of these chairs? I have four chairs with a similar design as these and they desperately need to be repainted and reupholstered. I am a little lost on how to reupholster the top of the chair with the open back so that it looks professional.

Aw these are lovely! Question, where do people find old chairs to refurbish? I’d like to find some short legged ones, kind of like those but shorter and with armrests, for my mum!

Hi everyone, thanks for such great comments! I had fun with them for sure! Amy – good question, i was confused also but there was piping around the edges of the existing backs, which hides how the panel just slips in. We just recovered the existing back and glued the piping around the edges. The Thomas Paula Duralee fabric is really reasonable too!

OMG that’s a little Crash! dog!!! I looooove Border Terriers! They are the best.n Sorry I didn’t notice what else was in the picture!!! ;-) Just kidding! Nice foot stool! Crash! wouldn’t get up on that. On second thought, maybe if I made one soft enough he would!!!

Oh hell, for a moment, I thought the “before” photo was of a chocolate cake!
Maybe I’ve just started a new trend in cake decorating :-)

Kelly green fabrics are so hard to find–that’s exactly what I’ve been searching for to recover my own dining chairs. Thanks

You aren’t gonna believe this, but my dog looks exactly like your dog… I mean exactly! I thought you had posted a picture of my dog!
