today’s first two before & afters focus on one of my favorite color combos- red and grey. first up is graphic designer becca rios in las vegas. becca recently tackled her first reupholstery job. her friend jill beeler helped her finish the chair/stool combo (originally purchased on craigslist for $20) with a bold grey/red fabric that really gives the chair new life. great work, guys!

this lovely nursery makeover comes to us all the way from tasmania. d*s reader rebecca designed and painted her own custom wall mural, finishing it off with little red bird decals handcut from red vinyl. thanks so much for sharing, bec!

both of these are amazing! i have 2 chairs just waiting to be reupholstered, and now i feel the urge to go for it. and that nursery is sheer prefection. awesome!
Where did the fabric for the chair and stool come from? I love that fabric and have seen it at a local furniture store where I live but haven’t been able to get it myself.
Awesome job, I have a wingback I’ve been putting off, but now I just might have the courage to finish.
Can you please tell me where this crib is from? I love it!
Amazing! Just a fabulous use of fabric to completely change a piece. And the nursery wall graphics are perfect. Very impressive.
I love that crib!
Ohh! That round stool is fabulous!!!
i love the nursery! Where is that little crib from?
The re upsholtery work is fabulous! The fabric and new wood finish of the pieces is perfect! Great eye and creative work.

absolutely in love with the color scheme going on in the first one… red, white, grey, black… beautiful.
yeah, the crib is absolutely beautiful. i really like the sweet gray and brown trees and red birdies! so mellow and restful, but not boring!
becca’s re-up is amazing — the print echoes the curves in the legs perfectly! i love red and grey combos.
so great. both!
Gorgeous!
What an adorable nursery! And I’m so impressed that that was Ms. Rios’ first re upholstery project. Very nice, indeed!
Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a chair like that upholstered?
That chair is amazing! Totally love it.

it really depends on your location and your upholsterer. i’ve found upholsterers in big cities are way more expensive than ones in suburban areas. (for example a couch job that cost me $1000 cost my friend in va. beach $650). but i’d say anywhere from $350-$700. i’d try checking your local craigslist for upholsterers- i’ve found a few good people that way who do upholstery as a side job for lower rates.

the chair and footstool combo is amazing. the curves in the upholstery pattern are beautifully matched with the curved lines of the chair and footstool.
Love that round stool. But the wood was so beautiful… wish she had kept it natural rather than paint over it.
and LOVE that little crib!
This is a wonderful transformation. I would like to know Rebecca learned to reupholster. I would love to learn myself. Thank you!
I love the painted wood, the chair is awesome! And I love the mural of trees, its so modern yet relaxing! BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful nursery! I love the color scheme, really fresh and modern and different!
Wauw, it looks amazing :D
These are both terrific! The nursery is definitely one for my inspiration book! Thanks.
LOVE the after of the chair and stool. However – I totally agree with Laura, I loved the look of the wood on the round stool and would have loved to have seen it kept natural…
the fabric is amazing on the chair and footstool.
the nursery looks like a fun warm space.
I love that little round stool! I agree with Laura though- the wood was beautiful and I actually really like the cream with it in the before! The after is great too but personally I’d have stuck with the natural color.
great work! i’m taking an upholstery class and i can really appreciate all the hard work you put into it!
OH WOW! on both projects!
I adore this and have been searching for a chair :(
This before and after is incredible. I love the ottoman!! So cute :)
That is awesome. I LOVE the walls in the nursery!
Holy cow!!!! That chair is amazing!!! Love the nursery too! So great!
that nursery is one of the best i’ve seen. love the crib and the way you painted the wall!
love it!
does anybody know of a tidy good-value upholsterer in london?
cheers
I am crazy for that chair & ottoman reinvention. The fabric is incredible (I second Ashley’s request for a source) and I love the paint color choice.
Also, what a sweet mural! I love the color palette in the nursery.
This is a beautiful chair. A lot of people pick a fabric they like and just upholster something, but this fabric is absolutely perfect for this particular chair. Well done. Fabric selection can be agony.
Thanks everyone for the comments on my chair/stool makeover, I’m so pleased with it and couldn’t have done it without the help of my friend Jill. Fabric is from tonicliving.com, it also comes in a yellow/orange palette.
i am the umpteenth person to ask – but where is that baby crib from??? i heart it so much! :o)
janelle
i believe someone sourced the crib in a comment above…

Thank you all for the lovely comments about my nursery! I had so much fun re-decorating it. The crib is the Seed Organic Cradle, you can also get it with a moses basket, which is gorgeous!
WHOO HOO! Love the chair and nursery soooooo much~!
Re: the nursery — a beautiful space that will captivate your little cherub. Love the walls, the mural is just darling, simple, yet modern and sophisticated.
Re:the chair — re-staining the wood that dark gray color was such a fantastic move! The pattern of the fabric adds so much life to the chair and ottoman. In a word…….brilliant~!
Wow, both, chair and nursery, are great! I love the fabric of the chair and the “wall-image” is just wonderful! :)

Would love to know the source for the red & gray fabric. Thx!
Love the bold geometric pattern and colours
Though I tend to go for neutrals such as white, ivory, cream, and taupe, that red and gray ensemble is lovely!
kinda wish they’d kept the wood tones for the chair and stool (even if they put a new finish on it). Love the fabric though it looks wonderful.
i just did an upholstery job myself yesterday, and when i saw this chair i thought “This must be really complicated”. But you can always give it a try yourself by making a ‘proof’ in cheap cotton , before cutting the pattern out of the fabric you intend to use.
Head over heels for the nursery! Love that it’s not full of too much frou-frou baby stuff… it’s unique, hip and simple, and will grow well with Baby! Thx for the inspiration.
I just saw the gray and red fabric on tonic living’s website. It’s called “Luba, Wine” on there. Not sure who makes it though.
I’m inspired! Time to find my sanding tools and a hammer I think ! Thank you
