Tony and Claës Lewenhaupt
Crosscurrents: Art, Fashion, Design, 1890–1989
Rizzoli, NY, 1989

This is probably my new favorite book. Sort of bizarre and awesome; it never disappoints, presenting parallels between fashion and art, architecture and product design. Crosscurrents was originally published in 1988 in Swedish as Tidens Tecken.

  • I found that book (Tidens Tecken) in the library at a hospital I worked at one summer when I was 14/15 (I think it must have been in 1986). Love at first sight, and it has certainly influenced my life (what I’m interested in, what I’ve chosen to study, how I look at clothes/fashion old/new etc.)!
I still love it. It has to be one of the best books ever produced, and it’s ridiculously cheap now, so for anyone interested in clothes/design/architecture: get yourself a copy!
