I spent 3 months in Shanghai for work last year, definitely an experience! One addition I have for the Luwan district is a shop called Platane. It features interior accessories from figurines to kitchen items, lighting, small furniture pieces and much more. I found hand made ceramic plates in an array of colours. I love them! They are at 156 Taikang Lu, right next to the aforementioned Taikang Lu area, which is a must see in my book, simply for the environment. The lanes are tiny and tight, no cars, and its bit like an alternative version of the covered bazar in Istanbul in that you'll get lost at first. Good food, some great galeries and boutiques!

Hey guys, just found out this guide. - it is quite good, and compact, but has a problem: Shanghai is a city on the move, and as it is constantly changing, I thought of dropping a shortlist of constantly-updated city guides:

Starting from the best (particularly for food and restaurants fans):

City Weekend Shanghai - http://www.cityweekend.com.cn

SmartShanghai -
http://www.smartshanghai.com

Urbanatomy -
http://www.urbanatomy.com

I think CityWeekend has the best foodie-friendly contents, although the other two guides offer lots of ideas and hints packaged in different ways - always check out your favourite Shanghai-related Website before going out for dinner!

Hope you found this useful,

T.

another 'must see' that i always reccommend is the Planning Museum, in People's Square next to the museum - it has an incredible scale model of the city, as well as floors of exhibitions about the development of Shanghai. Also a stroll along Si Nan Road in the heart of the French Concession, which ends at Tai Kang Road. Visitors are welcome at Nuzi, we have a 'private' lounge with terrace to enjoy a bottle of New Zealand wine if you're looking for a more intimate option than the surrounding cafe's & restaurants. :)

Just a quick correction: Spin Ceramics is 758 Julu Road, NOT Changle Road - after wandering around for an hour looking for it, we did a quick websearch and discovered that it was listed on Julu Road in the lot behind/close by Mesa Restaurant. Hope this saves other travellers a bit of time - I have high hopes of finding it tomorrow.
