man shops globe + triple play at the d*s guest blog

if american idol was about television shows and i was a judge- i would be the paula abdul of that program. i spent the majority of my time working, with bad posture, from my living room couch watching movies and television to keep me company while i work (i can’t talk to the cats all day). so when i hear about new shows i’m quick to get excited and applaud great ideas. and sundance’s new show “man shops globe” seems like a fantastic idea.

the show is based on the shopping adventures of keith johnson, the buyer-at-large for anthropologie. (can i pause for a second to say “i.want.that.job”) premiering on sundance at 10pm on wednesday october 7th, man shops globe will follow johnson as he travels to france, india, turkey and beyond to discover the incredible furniture and design objects carried in anthropologie stores. to say that i’m excited about this show would be a serious understatement. i only have one question: why didn’t anyone think of this before? buyers have some of the coolest jobs on the planet and i’ve been dying to live vicariously through them for years. and thankfully, now we can. fingers crossed the show is as interesting (and gorgeous) as it seems…

oh my! Grace thanks so much for posting this! it looks like just my kind of show, as I too like to have interesting shows on while I work during the day. Keeps by brain from going numb when working on web design, etc.! Can’t wait!

I was crossing 5th avenue, giant box in my hand, in the middle of presidential visit traffic and literally stopped to stare at the ad for this on the side of a bus. I will so be watching also.

So if I wasn’t obsessed enough with Anthropologie already … I can’t wait to catch this and find out where all those great goodies come from! Thanks for sharing.

YES! I try to spend as little time in front of the TV as I can, but this definitely is a watch.

I was just in Anthropologie in Soho over the weekend and they never cease to make me fall in love with their product and visuals…

Lydia, Clueless Crafter

I love it! Wonder if this is going to be the next Anthony Bourdain of th design, buying world?

Anything that takes me on travels, is my show.

Still hold a torch for Rick Steve’s, though;-)

I. Want. That. Job. Too.

I just RSVP’d for the Seattle launch party. Glory be for intersting goods!

May I just agree 100% with Grace and throw my hat in the ring as to wanting that to be MY job too? Lucky duck.

You can bet that I’ll be sitting in front of my television on October 7th waiting with baited breath for the shopping adventures to begin!

This is my idea, actually that I came up with 10+ years ago with my friend Leslie in design school – except in our show, it’s shopping “Live”… QVC on the road, so to speak. It’s cameras, crew and a high traffic web/phone lines to place orders. Lydia’s comment about “the next Bourdain” is spot on… something like this needs humor, color & local flavor and it’s not the food, it’s the goods! Keith Johnson is a major hit. I’m guessing it’s going to be funny because you need humor in the worlds you shop in. The show will work and this is great coverage here. Thanks.

If you have cable on demand, wait no longer. I saw the france episode saturday night on demand.

i don’t think it’s online- it’s brand new so it’s probably going to stay on the tv only route for a while…
