every now and then i stumble upon an interior designer whose work feels like the perfect combination of modern and classic. i find myself constantly struggling to combine my love of classic, traditional design with my desire to indulge in current color and pattern trends. so when i heard from designer tamara kaye-honey i was thrilled to see that her work balanced both of those worlds perfectly.

originally from halifax, nova scotia, tamara now lives and works in los angeles where she runs her interior design firm honey interiors. tamara has a real knack for combining high end pieces with low-budget finds and uses some really fantastic color palettes in her work. i was really smitten by her work in a south pasadena home so i thought i’d share some photos from that project here today.

oh to be the lucky residents of this pasadena home- i love the way that tamara used yellow throughout the home in a number of different ways- in poppy sunshine hues and more sophisticated golden tones. and the little girl’s pink bedroom (picture after the jump)? i’d be happy to live in that room right now. you can view more of tamara’s beautiful work right here and contact her for design services right here. thanks to tamara for sharing her beautiful work with us!

tamara’s design (esp. the pasadena home) is an inspiration to me. i love the blue’s, yellows and mix of era’s. i cant wait to incorporate some of her thoughtfulness in the redesign of my 1960′s home!

Lindsay

My mouth literally dropped open when I saw this home. Absolutely gorgeous. Stunning.

I love the pop of yellow on the door and planters. And to see how it’s carried through! I want to redo my condo wit a color theme now. Surely my husband won’t mind repainting again…

Lydia, CluelessCrafter

Really intriguing combinations of texture here.

Tamara, this may be a funny question, but why did you stage the room with the 2 fur/shag chairs with a picture of the young girl on the floor?? Is this an idea for pictures or did you do this to help bring a center point to the layout when you were shooting?

Lauran

Wow! Please, Tamera, can you tell me the exterior paint colors? That dark blue gray and perfect yellow for the door? I must put those colors on our house too!

sara

Really playful and sweet — but not too saccharine. What a beautiful home! (And no one’s mentioned those sheepskin chairs?)

Michelle

Can you tell me where is the mirror over the fireplace from???? Thanks!!!!

Love the color palette for the outside of the house and the kitchen booth! Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Lissa

Oh my. Where is your yellow sideboard from with wrought iron pulls? Awesome!

Lizzie

This is beautiful! My house has the same gray, white, and yellow color scheme. Tamara, I’m wondering where the two outdoor plant pots came from? Thank you so much.

CLF

A word about nomenclature for non-Angelenos. This lovely house is not a “Pasadena home.”

This house is located in South Pasadena, a city separate and apart from Pasadena. (See West Hollywood.)

Frinée

Lovely, just lovely. I have a bench that is similar (an L shape) in my kitchen and am looking for a table like that-with the pedastal. Where did you get that?

jenny

wow!! this home is beyond gorgeous! i love the mix of high and low and the color throughout. it looks comfortable, touchable and utterly stylish. thanks for turning me on to this designer!

Anne

The end tables in the girl’s room are beautiful. What paint color was used for them?

Gwen

This home is just lovely! It looks like it’s straight outta Domino mag (and man do I miss that).

onjewels

tamara- could you tell me if you purchased the wooden fireplace surround somewhere, or if it was custom made? I love the clean lines especially with the black brick and would like to try it in my house.

Anastasia

What A beautiful Project, I love your work! The Black mirror above fireplace is fantastic, is it a one of a kind? Would love to know where it came from.
Thanks!
Anastasia

I didn’t see it mentioned above:
- what color is the trim work in the office?
- also, what shade of white are you using throughout?
Thanks!

Dear Design Sponge – I’d love to be able to locate fabric like the chairs shown in picture labeled honey8. Is there anywhere you could point me that I might be able to locate this fabric? I’m wanting the fabric on the brown/orange/gold patterned modd side chairs?

grace

hi barbara

i’m afraid i don’t know what the fabric is, but i’ll ask tamara to respond :)

grace

elisabeth
