Color Me Yellow

112

OK, so this color seems to have been percolating for a while. I love it though, for me yellow still bears fruit. And one of my favorite visionaries, design forecaster Li Edelkoort, chose a yellow house for the cover of her recent, and much coveted, color forecasting book. Earlier this year she spoke at Design Indaba, (a South African design conference where she called yellow the new pink. She says it is the perfect compliment to gray – the other color Edelkoort believes we will see more and more.

Once you start looking it is amazing how much yellow pops up.

Now, you can go all DIY and dye your own stuff yellow or, if you’re like me, just add dashes of it here and there…

Great hits of yellow:

1. A graphic print from Jenn Ski – an artist with a passion for all things mid-century. (top image above)

2. Alvaar Alto’s bent birch plywood armchair designed in 1933.

3. Cool yellow 1950s enamel lamp from Rewire

4. ‘Wild Yam Flower’ by Australian aboriginal artist Rosemary Petyarre.

5. A simple yellow cord for a bare bulb by Swedish designer Mattias Ståhlbom.

TYPO ALERT! …”says it is the perfect compliment to gray – the other color Edelkoort believes we will see more and more. ”

compliment should be complement! this is a common typo that makes me crazy and just makes me distrust the writer…

typos happen. we do our best to catch them as quickly as possible, but i can assure you they have little to do with the writer’s trustworthy-ness.

How ridiculous! Seriously, do you never make mistakes?
@Grace
Great post! I wish I could find a lovely 1950′s enamel lamp like that!

@Pixen

It may be a common mistake (personally “then”, when “than” is required, irks me far more), but adding dictonary references just makes you seem insufferable.

I love the yellow lamp and I love this site: gorgeous new ideas every day. I don’t know how you do it.

(Apologies in advance for any spelling or grammar errors – tee hee! ;o).

Yellow has always been my favorite color. I am painting my kitchen this weekend and just nabbed one of each yellow color chip I could find at the paint store. Decisions, decisions!
