i have a soft spot for furniture that feels both organic/woodsy and industrial or edgy at the same time. so when d*s reader nichon sent over a link to designer bram hendriks‘ furniture i was in heaven.

based in the netherlands, bram creates incredibly beautiful wooden furniture that features natural details like live moss on bark and industrial decorative details like screws (which also serve a functional purpose) arranged in a studded fashion. i’m dying to see these in person, but in the meantime i’ll have to keep drooling over bram’s site. click here to check it out and thanks to nichon for the link!
CLICK HERE for info and images on artist boey’s foam cup drawings after the jump!

i also wanted to add these fun foam cup drawings from artist cheeming boey. they’ve made the internet rounds a bit so i’ll leave it short and sweet: i love boey’s black and white illustrations on this unusual medium. click here for more info on his work and click here to view his full collection with purchasing info. thanks, boey.

Okay, the table really is beautiful, but if you look up “form over function” in the phrase dictionary, I think you’re going to see this very picture. Imagine scraping your leg on those spikes everytime you walk by your coffee table? Not to mention if you have a toddler….I mean, come on.

these may not be the best pieces for children, but the other pieces (without the screws) don’t seem like a problem to me. all that smooth wood? i don’t think it’s all form over function.

Gotta agree with Avril on this one. I don’t even have children and my first thought on seeing the table with the screws was “heavy blood loss” and “blinded 1 year old.” I do like the first one though.
i love the idea of conceptual furniture, i don’t always feel the need for functional and practical pieces. (even though these seem to be very functional!)
WOW! I think these pieces are seriously beautiful! I love how parts of the tree are untouched so we can see the bark and moss. They seem fluid and heavy all at the same time. Thanks for posting this!!
Although the furniture is quite beautiful, my eye was immediately drawn to the beautiful black and white imagery on the cups.
How forward-thinking and rare. Kudos to Boey!
I _love_ the wood tables. The woograin is beautiful on all of them, and I like how the first one has the original bark on it stil. Those cups are cool too! I always draw on my styrofoam cups at parties, with I thought to keep some!
Everyone should remember when looking at this blog, it does happen to be a design blog. It’s even in the name. Of course some things may not serve it’s “purpose” best if you have kids or whatnot, but this blog is to showcase the creative “outside the box” work going on in our industry. May not be functional to you – but it could be for someone else. I just hate to go through these comments sometimes and people are saying “it’s not functional”. Are you going to buy it? If not – then no worries :)
I love the contrast on the furniture – yes!
hate to spam – I just want to apologize for my ridiculous grammar and spelling mistakes above!!
Oh what a beautful way to bring nature indoors, particularly if you can’t manage indoorplants.
The illustrations on those cups are great!
Those are awesome!
Heavy blood loss? Blinded 1 year-old? C’mon, people there are much more dangerous things all over everywhere. Ok, not like the one with bolts sticking out, but you just wouldn’t get it if you have a toddler, right? Just like you wouldn’t get an all-glass 2-meter-square coffee table… (unfortunately, my parents did when I was, like, 3…)
The design of these is really creative and I think the artist deserves praise.
Love the cup doodles! What a great way to make a single use item last a little while longer. Hope you enjoyed the coffee too!
P.S. in light of all the above comments, maybe you should’ve posted the designs separately, the brilliance of one is lost by the other.

i posted these together because the boey designs have already made the internet rounds- i don’t normally devote a whole post to something readers more than likely have already seen somewhere else.

Nice idea on the low side table (bram 5). The metal elements are a little strange to me, but the basic idea of using the grown shape for the legs is very imaginative!
