lately i’ve been drawn to rustic lighting, rather than super sleek designs. so i was happy to hear from designer zeke leonard about his beautiful ‘beam end sconces’. zeke’s sconces are made from the off-cuts of a local timber-framing construction company. zeke explained that “unlit the sconces tell the story of the life of the tree, the growth rings showing a snapshot of eighty years or more in most of them”. but when they’re lit, the natural cracks (called “checks”) speak of another way of telling time, as each crack occurs as the wood loses water over time. in addition to zeke’s sconces, he also designs a beautiful series of tables, seating and other accent furniture. i’m pretty taken with his bed/pendant lamp combo, but his light switch bird house is pretty cute, too. click here to check out more of zeke’s work. [zeke's sconces are available for $100, just shoot him an email right here to order.]

Indeed the combination between rustic and modern ( lights ) looks awesome.
Love all this rustic yet modern use of wood!
Stunning!
So organic! I really love the pendant lamp!
Very nice! So happy to see some new design/product/artitst featured. I miss those kinds of posts. Feels a little like the “old” Design Sponge which is a good thing in my opinion:)
Amazing work! I would love waking up on that bed. It all feels like waking up in a well designed tree house. I love it!
Wow, these are beautiful!
Very cool!
I am absolutely in love with these!! looks like they give off beautiful light too.
These look really nice, wonder what the effects would be like in different woods?
THis is lovely!
I love this. My husband really likes the rustic look and I struggle with how to integrate it into my modern aesthetic. These rustic pieces are so simple and streamlined that I think they would work well as pop pieces in my decor.
These are the first things like this made of wood that I like. Usually I see lamps made of wood where they leave the original shape of the tree, which I’m not crazy about. This is lovely. Neat, natural and beautiful
Reminds me of artist Kevin Appel, he is Paige Anderson Appel’s husband. He paints wood grain into his modern architectural work. You should check him out.
YAY ZEKE! Beautiful work, and well deserved compliments.
I am so in love with these!!!
Of course, I love these. Yay Zeke, indeed! :)
Thanks for this post – those sconces are absolutely refreshing!
those sconces are brilliant! I need them in my life! what a simple, elegant, yet rustic element for above a bed- well, really anywhere!! great post!
This is incredible work! I’m always taken when something so simple and so beautiful comes along
