penguin‘s recovered classic series was a huge hit when i posted it last november, so i was thrilled to hear from coralie at penguin about a brand new series of penguin clothbound classics.

8 of penguin’s titles from last year will soon be available across america, with a selection of titles for sale at anthropologie and urban outfitters. in addition to the american set, there will be an additional set which will be exclusive to waterstone’s in the uk, available through their website on october 5th. i quite simply can’t get enough of these books so i hope you’ll enjoy them as much i as did.

I can find them on the urban outfitters website. Is there another link or any other place selling them?
I love them soooo much!
Hooray! I can’t wait!
gorgeous! do you know how many covers coralie designed for this new set?
hm i wonder if i can somehow get my hands on them from NZ…
Thanks for sharing these! I love Coralie Bickford-Smith’s work. I can’t wait to purchase the set that will be available in the U.S. this November.
Want them all!!
These books are fantastic and I am so thrilled by them! 8 of the first 10 are available for preorder on Amazon. If anyone knows how to find Madame Bovary and Crime and Punishment, (or if Amazon will be getting those eventually)please update!
Ah, these are lush… what a gorgeous visual they make in composite fashion like this. Lovely post!
Loving the “Emma” one. Gorgeous!
love these! can’t wait…
I love these. The colors and illustration are wonderful.
Those books are beautiful! I just want to pet them!
wow. these are so magnificent!
Oh I’ll take one of each!
you can pick them up at any chapters or indigo in canada…i’ve seen them in toronto and vancouver.
I always pull the jackets off and toss them in a pile anyway. These suit me perfectly.
I love them! I want them all. I did find the 8 out of 10 on pre-order at amazon too. :) Cheaper than I thought!
A house is never full unless it has lots of books, these are amazing. BRAVO!!!
@Melissa–do you have Amazon links? I just looked for the Wilkie Collins & don’t see it at all.
Have you seen the Ruben Toledo covers for a few Penguin Classics?
I found them b/c I wanted to write about this series. The Toledo covers are tres chic, though personally, I like this style better.
Anyway, you find more info about the Toledo covers here:

so gorgeous. i can’t wait to see them in the stores.
Beautiful! I love books!
God I love these (and I had the ones at amazon pre-ordered as well). Let us know when these are available in the US (or maybe you did and I just read it wrong).
Dammit!
These books are beautiful. They sell them in my local Borders in Canberra.
I was planning on featuring them as a Wednesday Want on my blog this coming week, but now I’m just gonna look like a copycat :D
Love the clocks on the Charles Dickens book.
Oh my goodness… these are simply beautiful! Why can’t all books be so wonderfully illustrated.
oh my, I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, bust open or just go and camp out side of Anthropologie til they arrive, heaven in little packages, its mad what makes us happy but a shelf full of these…..happy! great post
Is it wrong to buy a book just because it’s pretty? I *need* all of these, but particularly that copy of Little Women. As if my book addiction weren’t bad enough!
I want to take these gorgeous specimens and rub them all over my face.
they will be published in the US in November and are on Amazon for pre-order search for the illustrator
“Coralie Bickford-Smith”
With gorgeous binding like this making a comeback,it’s decided;
I will never stop buying more books than I can read.
Little Women is first…
They’re completely divine – I must have the Little Women one!
Very beautiful. Big fan of Coralie’s work! I love having my morning coffee and being enlightened by this blog.
I am definitely going to add these to my Amazon wish list. There is something about that binding that is so nostalgic and beautiful.
aren’t they just delicious!
This takes me back to my mothers personal library as a kid. Love the covers, perfect color combo’s.
Im thrilled! These are awesome-although, Im a little nervous how much they are going to be at Anthro….
i just picked up sense and sensibility for 5 bucks at indigo (canada) – i ‘m hoping to collect more when they markdown the others
Well I will certainly be adding to my library. And how perfect that they have Alice in Wonderland. I wanted to read it before the new film came out, and now I will have a beautifully bound version!
I got a french old book collection for children, so beautiful, with pink cover! I love it!
It’s called “Bibliothèque rose” so pink library! ;)
Oh now really… who wouldn’t want these on their shelves!!!!
I love them! Their kids version, puffin classics, have really cool paperback covers too.
Wow these are gorgeous ! I read classics all the time and I appreciate good covers. This is my first time commenting on your blog but I will definitely be coming back for more.
No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane: The books will cost no more at Anthropologie than they do anywhere else: $20 each. And for anyone wondering why they can’t find the books on the Anthropologie and UO sites, it’s because the books aren’t on sale till November (and those sites don’t do pre-orders as far as I know).
Also, my guess is that this new set of books will be available in the U.S. the same time next year, November 2010 (just in time for holiday shopping).
I can’t decide which one I like the most! These are fantastic!
I bought the old set at the beginning of this year from Indigo online. They’re lovely. Hopefully the new set will be available there too, because I’m not patient enough to wait until next year for Penguin to maybe release them here.
The Dickens and Austen are calling my name. Love the clocks and chairs.
@Lola- You saved the day! i could not find them anywhere on amazon! thanks for the illustrator tip! these books are amazing! i will eventually own them all and that way i have an excuse to own and to read them. thanks for the post!
Oh my! These beauties combine two of my greatest passions: reading and home decor!
Okay, for all you Canadians looking for these books, I just pre-ordered 8 of the 10 books from the old set on amazon.ca. Then I found the missing two, Madame Bovary and Crime and Punishment and my local Chapters store! Now, I just have to try and be patient until the new set reaches us in Canada…
does anyone know where i can pre order Little Women? I’ve check Amazon in the US, UK and Canada, but no luck. Any suggestions?
Are there any ISBN’s for the new set?
whitney- i’m afraid i don’t have them. sorry :(
grace
I found six of the ten on the Chapters Indigo website. However, there are no pictures, so you have to search by ISBN. I have no clue why all ten are not available, but hopefully they are soon! I’m a little nervous buying them unseen, but it seems like that has worked out for others so here’s hoping.
P.S. you can find the ISBNs for each book in the comments under each picture of them on the penguin flickr photostream
Thanks for the tip for the flickr stream. I will continue to search for the new set…I really can’t resist these, even if I have to get them from the UK. :)
Thanks grace for answering my question too!
Just to clarify. I found six of the new ten on Chapters.
Thankyou Stephanie! I just bought 6 of 10 of the new set thanks to your tip!
Thanks Stephanie! I got 6 at chapters and the last 4 at Waterstones.
For Australian readers, both sets (in full) are available through Borders. I bought the new set last night – they look great!
The titles will also be available at Borders in NZ soon, too!
You can find these books at Amazon (US), Chapters Indigo (Canada) and Waterstone (UK) although none of these sellers have all 20 books. The 10 newer ones are being pre-ordered at Amazon (US) – 5 will ship in March, and the other 5 in September, about $14 each (13.40 or 13.60).
These are the ISBNs:

There are copies of Crime and Punishment and Madame Bovary on ebay right now.
I was able to order 8/10 of the 1st set from Amazon (to be shipped ASAP). Amazon is missing Madame Bovary and Crime & Punishment.
You can preorder the 2nd set off Amazon for $135.50. Just enter each ISBN into the search. :)
Where did you find them on ebay?! I have been trying to find Madame Bovary and Crime and Punishment for months to finish out the first set.
If you type in the name of the book + cloth on Ebay the auctions should come up. Looks like there’s still 4 days to go, so you’ve got time. These books are definitely worth it to complete the collection!
These are cheaper at buy.com. Just under $13. Amazon is ~$13.60. Plus buy.com has bing shopping points.
Are there any international readers out there willing to help me acquire Madame Bovary and Crime & Punishment. I would prefer non-numbered copies, but beggars can’t be choosers! :) I don’t mind paying a bit more, or paying for shipping, but I’m just not up to paying the $300 they go for on ebay. If you can help, please contact me at twodogsagirl@gmail.com – thanks!
There are Madame Bovary books on ebay Australia. The last book went for around AUD $150. I hope that this helps :)
13 books are currently available at Barnes & Noble bookstores and online, retail $20, but $14.40 for members (save 27%). Available for pre-order for issues coming out 9/28/10: Madame Bovary, Little Women, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Oliver Twist, The Woman in White, The Sonnets and A Lover’s Complaint at $13.50 each for members. (I use weekly coupons & free shipping to get better prices than Amazon). Having trouble tracking down Crime & Punishment. Please do not pay over US$20! I was shocked to see that dealers sell new books for more than that.
Is there ANYWHERE that I can find the Crime and Punishment and Madame Bovary books?? I know it’s late, but I reeeally want these books!
alison
not on amazon? i was told they were there…
g
At cb-smith.com Coralie gives the ISBNs and also notes that Crime & Punishment and Madame Bovary will be hard to find because they are out of print. I think it is because the set was originally only supposed to sell to Waterstone. It will be very hard to find those books for cheap; I’ve been looking and haven’t found any!
Puffin now is doing clothbound childrens classics that are beautiful as well and for sale at Anthropologie!
