renee of eat.live.shop sent in this beautiful before & after. she and her boyfriend found an old wooden door curbside (free!) and thought they could make something cool with it. it was in rough shape, but with a little work it was transformed into a great table top! how did they do it? renee and her bf removed the hinges, cut it down to size, sanded it down to the original wood (which still has a hint of the old layers of color showing through) and stained it with a walnut colored stain. after reattaching the hinges, they applied a weather sealer for protection and secured the new table top to the base of an old wrought iron sewing table they had “kicking around” and voila! a unique, custom table for around $50. bravo to renee and her boyfriend for seeing the potential in this found object.

Love Love Love this!
Perfect for a little herb garden! So cute!
that’s beautiful!! i love the colors- can’t believe they were underneath that brown paint.
Love it and want one!! Good work.
Why would anyone ever consider buying an outdoor table after seeing this?
ooo …rustic in the best sort of way.
Wasn’t sure I loved it at first but it looks so perfect in the garden!
When I saw the before, I imagined using the cut out area to have a combination table/storage unit. Use the door as is for the table top, box out the sides so that the cut out can store books or even a tall object that sticks out through the table. I don’t think I’m describing this well… maybe it’ll have to be my next project!
Well, that’s unique. I expected the door-core-as-dining-table; what a pleasant surprise. This is lovely.
Stunning.
Gorgeous! I’d love that in my garden.
I can’t believe it, this is the project I have been waiting for…I’ve had an old antique door in my garage for 2 years and now it will finally have purpose. Thank you!! :)
YES. So great.
On second thought, if you wanted to keep the whole door for a longer tabletop you could easily place cut glass in the window frame – something that would look okay getting a bit dirty. I also like Kat’s idea, though would be loathe to give up the Singer wire base.
The colors in the reclaimed wood are perfect!
Woah! I love that it’s shortened. not what I was expecting, but I love it!
I love that they just had an antique sewing table base lying around. I really like this. I’d love to try something similar for a dining room table (with a larger top of course).
I have an old door in my backyard right now! Passed it in an alley and had the hubby go back and pick it up! I had no idea what to do with it til now. Debating between this or Ashley Ann’s pallet bed with the old door used as a headboard!
I wasn’t sure I loved it at first glance either, but it looks fantastic on your porch! The previous owner of our house left an old sewing machine base like this in a shed, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for the right top to put on it. I’m saving this as inspiration!
Thank you for all the lovely comments! xo
Very cute. I was looking for something creative with the glass window, but it does look gorgeous as is!
Love it!!! great work
Too too cute! I love that table!!!
i’m only capable of saying: “wow! that’s so cool!”
nice job!
wow, love it :)
Lynn, I’m so glad you could understand my ramblings! Just glass would be great too.
Isn’t this a great way to recycle ?
Love it.
Oh man. That used to be a really nice door.
Lovely, I love vintage things!
That door was worth more when it was a door.
