today i am beyond thrilled to announce that the show i curated for artstream in new hampshire will be opening tomorrow, july 11th! susan at artstream invited me to curate a show earlier this year and the first idea that popped into my head was to celebrate the southern artists i have grown to love over my many trips to savannah, georgia. so, tomorrow night from 5-8pm at artstream, our show “deep south in the northeast” will open!

i brought together some of my favorite southern artists (artists who are from, work in, or studied for extended periods of time in the deep south) and am so thrilled with our final list: stephanie howard (probably my all time favorite artist from any region), meryl truett (top image above), tim wirth, natalie chanin of alabama chanin, denise falk (image directly above), katie runnels, haylie waring, lillian farag, and emily marie cox (below, left).

i’m going to go into deeper detail with the artists next week, but i wanted to announce the show opening today and share some beautiful examples of everyone’s work. some of the pieces in the gallery have sold already (yay!) so if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and check out everyone’s work. stay tuned for more on the show next week. in the meantime, click here for more information and directions. thank you to susan for having me and to all of the artists for participating! [be sure to click "read more" at the end of this post to see all of the full-sized images of the artists' work] [UPDATE: click here to shop the artwork from the show online!]

Have an amazing weekend!
What great selections! I love Meryl Truett’s polaroid transfers on tile.
Congrats! Wonderful Work! Thank you for sharing.
awesome to see Stephanie Howard getting more press. I went to SCAD as well and rowed with Steph for a few years and I always loved her artwork. wish i could check out the show.
love tim wirth’s squares and circles. love.
Natalie Chanin does not design for the company project Alabama anymore. The name of her new company is Alabama Chanin. You can read her full story on her site and blog. Alabama Chanin is manufactured still in Florence Alabama where she started Project Alabama. Project Alabama is not. Just thought I’d share.
Congrats on the exhibition! They’re gorgeous works. I love those polaroid transfers by Meryl Truett…the tiles add depth and texture. The muted tones of Lillian Farag are intriguing, and the dioramas from Katie Runnel are adorable! Great picks. Hope you’re enjoying our cloudy respite from the glaring heat of last week!
Whoa, Meryl Truett…NICE!!
OMG, “Girl on Piano” is the most insanely beautiful thing I have ever seen.
If I were rich I would buy it for my 3 year old daughter who her dad I and I think is the next Fiona Apple. Thank you for this. Gorgeous stuff!
Wow! There’s some amazing stuff in this lineup! Congrats on your show!!
Thanks for sharing with us the weekly readings. I get so empowered by you and your teams articles.

What a wonderful group of artists!
This looks wonderful! Can’t wait to see more :)
wish I were there! congratulations!! can’t wait to hear how it goes.
It’s always dangerous to visit you when I have work to do, lol! Cause I spend all my time perusing the wonderful links you provide! Thanks for the inspiration! Have a beautiful weekend!!!
I’ll be in NH next week, and I am NOT going to miss this! That Denise Falk piece is so gorgeous.
What a pity you didn’t mention your guest blogger at the beginning of the week!. How easily Abigail’s posts could be missed, and presumably any other guest blogger as their posts are only briefly mentioned with a link at the end of the week… more focus on these interesting extra pieces of work on the front page would mean more viewings, as before when you commented at the outset….

i think you just missed the links- i mentioned abigail’s post every day on the main blog, either in the first post of the day or second. we never leave the guest blog alone to promote itself :)

Congratulations on the show!
I was wondering if you could help me out. I saw an earlier post of yours where you were choosing fabric for a chair, and I fell in love with some of the fabric on the hable construction site, but unfortunately I’m not a designer and they don’t sell their fabric to the public. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on great online shops of unique fabric like the ones on hable construction and purlsoho.
Wonderful idea for a show and some great artists to check out!
hi bethany!
well purl isn’t trade only so you can find some great fabrics there- i always suggest purl for people who want some fun, colorful fabrics but don’t want to pay to hire a designer. that said, i honestly think hable fabric is worth the fee of a designer’s ordering services. most d&d centers (like the one in nyc) will let you call and order through them for a fee. if you really really love a fabric, it could be a worthy splurge. if not, i’d suggest purl- they have lovely fabrics. :)
