as i write this i’m preparing myself for comments that mention “that 70′s show” and shag carpeting, but i think these macrame olds are pretty adorable. yes, owls have been done ad nauseam. and yes, macrame can feel a little, well, dated. but i think tamara mayne‘s hand-dyed macrame owl collection- titled “to john denver with love“- would be so sweet used sparingly, and in the right space. for me, macarame has such a warm, nostalgic feel to it, and combined with a healthy mix of modern goods, it can add just the right touch of texture to a room. so for those of you who still have a soft spot in your heart for owls and macrame, click here to check out tamara’s collection online. thanks, tamara!

reminds me of my mother and bold patterned polyester shirts. gotta love it!
amazing how owls never tire. Darling!
I think you are right… they are very sweet, and have a little punch, too. I love how you put it, “used sparingly.” As a visiting resident of Colorado for almost two years, I actually got what the Denver songs were all about…esp. visiting the Rocky Mountains.
As a child in the 70′s, I was probably overexposed to macrame and like this 2009 rendition quite a lot! Great colors!
ooh these are cute – i do like a bit of macrame, spotted some nice macrame chairs in the house proud book.
i think they’re wonderful. owls never get old in my book.
too cute! brings me back in time, for sure!
Owls will never be out of style. And I love these but I almost think they look more like an owl in the close up rather than the whole things.
My Grandma had an “owl” themed bathroom. Every time I see them I think of her, great memories. ;)
Makes me think of Gramma! Love the colors.
They are $195 each. Maybe I should scour garage sales a bit more closely.
I love how they read both as owls and as an abstracted African type mask. These would be great for adding a little pop of texture into a blank space, or giving a sense of humor to a wall hung with “serious” art.
I love them! I have some macrame wall hangings that my mother had made when she was in highschool. They scream 1970′s and I love it! I am a bit jealous that she was around in the 70′s, I love that era! These are a fabulous modern take.
I love the fact that they are hand -dyed! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Grace! Wow I have an interview with Tamara scheduled to go up this Friday! Small world!? (ps- yes, they’re $195… but they’re lovingly handcrafted and dyed… they’re also not as tiny as they appear here – 65cm long in fact… and that’s Australian dollars ;) x
So cute! I need to learn how to macrame.
These are definitely more modern than the owls I made at summer camp! Love them! <3
that reminds me of a huge macrame owl that my grandma used to have……i should ask my mom where it is now. cute
OMG these are too cute! The colors are great and I like how they look a bit more modern than the ones you would find in the 70s.
macrame always makes me think of my parents (who got married in 1974) and i love it! no apologies, macrame has its place.
How lovely!
This designer is amazing. I am fortunate enough to have met her and she puts so much time and effort into her work. She absolutely adores the older crafts and wants to resurrect them with a modern touch. Bring it on!
