last summer ac and i escaped to the eastern end of long island for a few days on the shore in montauk. the hotel where we stayed left, well, a lot to be desired so i’ve been looking for somewhere cute and interesting to stay. leave it to british mag living etc. to suggest a great local spot- the surf lodge.

the surf lodge is one part hipster hotel, one part surfer’s haven/crash pad. i’m loving their laid back, but design-forward, style and all of the little details like women basket lights, hanging wicker chairs and fun painted murals. looks like a good place to kick back for a weekend if you need to escape (and catch a few waves). click here for more info.

Wow. I can feel the sand in my toes already. =)
i’m originally from long island and had no idea that it held such treasures. i love the shuttle pictured on their website :)
Montauk is one of my favorite places on earth, and this place looks so amazing I can’t stand it. Considering the rates aren’t listed anywhere, I’m presuming it’s about a schmillion dollars a night. A bit out of my range :(
I’ve read bad things about the staff at this hotel. Grace, go on a “business trip” and let us know if it’s worth the price. Yes it’s cute, but I don’t want to be treated poorly on my vacation…
…yes visually the place is amazing. But when it comes to the true surf culture of Montauk this place is ruining it. The Hamptons crowd has infiltrated due to this establishment. It makes no locals happy.
i’ve been looking for a nice place to stay in montauk and this might be it, thanks!
this is so cute! i wish i lived closer to long island.
So great! Love all the creative ideas – colour – not over the top but great decorating! Montauk’s sounds pretty good right now with the constant Irish rain!
Wow. What a beautiful place. I wonder if it’s kid friendly? I love, love the red and black awning striped deck chairs! Anyone know where those are from?
ooh… that place looks awesome. i think that sam (the hottest chef ever on bravo’s top chef) is the chef at the restaurant there. one more reason to visit!
This looks amazing, I just emailed the link to my husband and my sister-in-law. We love vacations!
And it looks like it’s around $300 per night. I wish they had specials or packages available.
Anyone know a source for that awesome hanging chair?
Adorable place!
oooh. looks very pretty, but weekend rates are $800 per night! ouch!
800$ a night doesn’t seem so surfer lifestyle.
I have to agree with Johnny P about locals not liking this place. Montauk (like Bklyn) used to be unhip. Now the locals are getting pushed out by the newcomers who have “discovered” the place and trendy ironic spins on what was already there are replacing the old standbys.
I am not against change, but gentrification and hipness have some big downsides to the people who live there….
that looks perfect! i’m assuming it’s really small and books up quickly? cause every date i enter for a trip in september or october is unavailable!
Grace, I don’t know if you know this, but the RSS is only showing the last 5 stories… which means the 2 you released today before this one don’t show up. I know its probably really annoying for you all the time fixing it, but I thought I should let you know, since for those of us that read via an RSS reader, if it doesn’t show up, we don’t see it. For something that is supposed to make life easier, it sure doesn’t seem that way hehe :)
I’ve heard bad things about staying at the Surf Lodge. Overpriced and the quality and service is equivalent to staying at a motel.
I agree-fantastic pics! I love the “surfer vibe” too.
Look this place up on tripadvisor before you book though…I was surprised to read the reviews.
I came across this article this morning.
