as part of their 80th anniversary celebrations, faber & faber have released six collections of poems selected by great writers in collectible hardback versions. senior designer miriam rosenbloom commissioned some exciting illustrators and printmakers to create the cover designs and i think the series as a whole is really stunning. much like the penguin classics that were a big hit last year, i think this series will be a wonderful addition to anyone’s home who appreciates great design, great poetry, or both. click here for more information. thanks, miriam!

these are gorgeous. what a beautiful combination of poetry and art!
Ooooooooh…
I want one (or all)!
My daughter would love those!! Thanks for sharing :)
I love these! I want them all! Well, except for the one on Ted Hughes, just because it’s Ted Hughes, not because of the artwork. :-)
Nice. And extra points for Seamus Heaney selections.
absolutely GORGEOUS. Set designers would love these I’d imagine.
I really love these covers. Great illustration.
hmmm…just tried to buy the set at Faber & Faber. Looks like Betjemen, Plath, and Eliot are not being shipped to the States? Anyone know more?
wonderful. I hope they are available for purchase!
It is always a pleasure to read a good book, and even more if it is a tasfefully designed object like these.
the look so wonderful
Great set of books!
These are going on my birthday list for sure.
I have worked as a freelance book and journal typesetter for about 8 years now and I love to see fabulous book design. These really are fantastic and proof that a monochrome palette can have as much impact as lots of colour!
Great coffee table books, each like their own work of art! Love it!
I am so in love!
Adore.
oh, so beautiful.
These really do combine two things I love – and remind me to get back into poetry!
I want them all.
Sarah, I was able to order the whole set from Amazon UK and they’ll ship to the States. I checked to see if I could save a little money by ordering the other three from Amazon here but since they’re about half price at Amazon UK it ended up being about the same so I ordered them all from the UK. I hope that helps!
Oh, wow. Can’t wait to get these!
Again, the brits come up with the chicest designs for books while the American counterparts are sorely lacking.
^Great info, Sharon. Thanks!
These are amazing!!!
Just bought one! The ‘Faber firsts” set is neat as well.
thanks sharon, very helpful. just got them!
Cool design!! great colors choice!
What an incentive for reading! Whoa! I am not one to display books, but these collection, I would
this is insanely great!
These are just so beautiful! :D thanks for posting!
Faber calling, so lovely to have such positive feedback. I’m afraid we can’t sell Betjemen, Plath, and Eliot to US residents from our site because they are territory restricted (ie: we don’t have US rights), hence the experience you’ve had. Glad you’ve managed to find a way to get them though.
Beautiful.
Very very nice!
I’m in love! I hopped over to the Faber site, as well as the FaceOut site. What amazing illustrations! These two companies seem like they were made to work together.
Is it just me, or is illustration of this kind not as common in the US? I rarely see it.
they really just got it right – very very well done!
love these so much became post! http://rareautumn.blogspot.com/2009/06/faber-at-80-classic-books-revisited.html
thank you so much for the tip!
wow amazing! im just about to do some woodcuts, love that effect…the T.S Elliot one looks exactly like one of his poems
those are so, so amazing!!!!!
This would be a collection I’d absolutely cherish.
Beautifully designed books! I would love to add these to my art book collection.
They say not to judge a book by it’s cover but I would buy these for their lovely covers. If I were to win the end papers I’d use them for book making and collages. The colors are so darn pretty.
