these next three before & afters are all about updating wood- or using wood itself to update a piece.

first up is michelle from oklahoma city, she and her husband found this dresser at a second hand store and thought it would be perfect for the nursery they are working on. their plan was to paint the whole piece but once they realized that the previous owner hadn’t done a very good paint job (the brown paint was coming off with a wet rag and elbow grease) they decided to take the dresser down to its original wood and paint the drawers with nursery-friendly hues. great work, guys!

next up is courtney from kelly + olive. she updated this wooden side table with some fresh white paint and some decorative wood veneer. i love how classy and modern they look now. great work, courtney!

last but not least is designer madeleine eiche of turnstyle. she found this “hideous” coffee table at the goodwill for $5 and decided to sand it, paint the bottom glossy white and then stain and polyurethane the top for a whole new look. thanks for sharing, madeleine!

Love love love the dresser! How perfect for a nursery!
heeeeey, I recognize that coffee tale! way to go, Maddie!
Maddie also has really cool retrofitted stationery, by the way.
The Kelly + Olive one makes me swoon.
That dresser is so great! I love it Michelle! Can’t wait until you finish the rest of the nursery!
cute stuff!
That dresser is what I dream of finding every time I search the thrift store.
and what a great after, I wish there were more photos.
I love what Courtney did with that nightstand. I am contemplating a veneer makeover of my own (with her help of course).
Yay, Courtney!
Great job, Michelle and Jake! I am impressed!
Maddy’s coffee table is amazing!
All of them took what could have been a typical makeover and made them really interesting – like not painting the top of the coffee table white. Or adding some veneer.
I did something similar with a retro desk of mine. I refinished the wood on the top of the desk and painted a white strip all around the edge. I love the way refinished wood can look mixed with a bit of paint. It can make a piece of furniture so interesting. Love it.
Oh, my, the faux Italianate side tables from Courtney were my bedroom set! Talk about a proustian moment, I saw it and almost cried. We had a dresser in our bedroom in our barn in Brookville, Long Island, but last I knew it was in my brother’s barn upstate.. lovely job, Courtney!
wow, thanks so much for featuring us grace, and to all of you for the lovely comments!!! xoxo
