before & after: amy’s chair

amyevansbefore1
there’s something about the combination of grey and pink that i just love so when i saw this submission from d*s reader amy, i couldn’t resist. amy found this chair for $10 at the last chance thrift store in decatur, georgia and decided to restore it on her own. she scored some great fabric for $3 at her local fabric store, some coral paint from home depot and upholstery tacks and screws to finish things up. since the existing straw seat was spent, she created a new bottom with plywood (painted sea blue) and glued on the upholstery tacks to add some texture. with the fabric she created a pillow to use as seat padding and voila! a new chair for just under $30. great job, amy!

I saw the before and I went, “oh!no!!” I love those old colonial pieces, and I thought, “I hope they did a good job restoring it!”
Loved the restoration – ingenious!..and what a pretty color! :)

Thanks for sharing!

Deborah

I absolutely love it! So creative and the color combinations are so cute and refreshing! I would love to see more of Amy’s before and afters!!!!

Wren

The chair is cute, but last chance is in Norcross, or possibly Chamblee, but NOT Decatur!

Dawn

So lovely & what a great color choice! I agree, the upholstery tacks really gives it that extra ‘umph’!

jasmine

so pretty! could you tell me the paint colour/brand?

Annie May

Such a great color choice, that pink is great! Definitely not one you see every day and I love it!

Kate

The chair looks great, BUT what is the paint color on the wall behind the chair? I love it.

Thanks for the great comments. It’s true.

To reader Wren:
Last Chance Thrift Store was located on Church Street In Decatur, GA. They recently moved into a new shopping center off of Scott ( still in Decatur).

Kim

Yeah, there are a couple of Last Chance stores in Gwinnett too! The place where I got most of my odd wardrobe in high school! ;)

The chair is fantastic though. That coral really pops. My parents still have a set of these kind of chairs in various states of disrepair… I wonder if they’d allow me to give them a makeover!

Bee

Pretty in pink!
Lovely job. IF you ever want the chair re-caned, you might try your local prison. I’m having one re-caned at the prison near me, and they do a great job for amazingly low prices.
