i’m heading out for the first day of bklyn designs now (i love design season!) but i wanted to close the day with a few images from the dwell brooklyn homes tour, taking place tomorrow from 11-5. the details are right here. i always love getting to see inside houses i ride past in cabs sometimes, so this will definitely be one to check out. in the meantime, check the d*s twitter account for live bklyn designs update, with the full report to come on monday (including a video interview with my pick for “best of the show”). until then, have a wonderful weekend and i’ll see you on monday!
*i’m running a little late so rather than a full summary of this week’s content, here’s an edited list of my personal favorites:
- interview with the set decorator for hbo’s no. 1 ladies detective agency!
- weeder’s digest in video form: sarah’s how-to floral arranging
- sneak peeks galore this week
- fun wedding decor idea
- jessica’s fireplace before & after (yowza)
- kellie’s hand-drawn diy wall pattern
- decorative glass domes
- interview with pia jane bijkerk about her new book
- free resources for biz ladies

Bricks in kitchens make be happy! Love the modern row house!
Love the bricked kitchen and the use of the office chairs.
i love it, almost thought it was a pre fab.
So, so beautiful! And I adored that wedding…the Alyson Fox invitations were so sweet and the flowers were exquisite.
*coveting ensues…*
Love it–but the bed above the oven looks scary!
the bed! scary but i love it, especially
the ladder curtain
Looks like it could be straight out of Melbourne or Sydney… very Australian. Love it! But ditto the bed in the kitchen (?)
Very cool! I thought it would look all small inside, but it looks great. How fun!
Usually I don’t like brick interiors but this looks great. So different to anything here in Brisbane. Funny, just saw the comment about re: Sydney and Melbourne.
I love bricks in kitchens too.. the whole raw industrial combined with modern elegance just rocks out! Thanks Grace for the great inspiration as always. I’m currently finalising plans to build and love checking in to see what you’ve found.
I agree – it could totally be sydney or melbourne! more likely melbourne though. Shelter mags wouldnt exist in australia without melbourne, or so my editor friends say… ;)
Brooklyn really does have the most wonderful spaces. I too adore the bricks in the kitchen. One of my favorite tricks is painting over bricks. There’s something about the texture that I find irresistable!

I wish they were doing this Sunday too…I couldn’t make it today :(
love the exposed brick wall!!
I love the industrial feel of the dining room.
Very nice layout, although I think if I lived here I would avoid cooking curries!
wow, can I please move in to one of these places?
Just FYI – those pics are from different homes! Hope you enjoyed the tours. Would love to hear feedback!
Exposed brick is the best. I’m from Baltimore and it’s very popular here downtown – it adds so much character!!
I don’t think I would like to sleep above my kitchen. What happens when you make fish?
60 pineapple was my favorite! wish i could have made it to your award at 4pm…! love your site!
