this before & after upgrade comes from pink at casa pinka. after trying to wrap her fridge with gift wrap (with not-so-hot results), she decided to try orla kiely wallpaper. the result is so cheery and happy, how could you not want to see this in your kitchen every morning? click here for more info on pink’s project. Fantastic thinking! I love the idea of finding a way to make such a major appliance fit with your decor (rather than trashing it for a generic stainless one and adding another massive item to a landfill)–kudos!

Thanks for all of your comments. I finished it with two coats of mat Mod Podge and am considering a coat of polyurethane. And Orla overload?!?! Isn’t that like getting tired of Paris (the country, not Hilton)? :)
Someone on my blog suggested adhering wallpaper to large magnets so it could be peeled off. Some magnets work through the wallpaper, some don’t.
Well, I got so tired of noisy Paris that I moved, but I still love this fridge. I hate my regular old white fridge. This is gorgeous…

Wow! Yikes! The idea is interesting, but I’m not sure about that pattern. I had it on my wall at work for awhile, and got tired of it…and took it back down.
I wonder-
if I bought a brand new piece of furniture and ripped out the new upholstery, sawed off the legs and hung it from the ceiling, but painted it a nice, shiny color and called it something artsy..
How many people could I get to say “WOW, It’s Gorgeous!” or, “Gee, That’s Fun!” on this site?

Where do you buy wallpaper in such small sections? I keep seeing great wallpaper ideas that use tiny pieces!
oops, i meant paris the city, not country! joe, the fridge was all rusted out and puke colored. emily, i ordered the wallpaper from the orla website. the sides took one and a half widths of wallpaper and i’d be happy to post a tutorial.
I love this though I would have to be really committed to that pattern before I could live with it. Top marks for boldness and guts. I admire it.

I probably wouldn’t have chosen that pattern, but it looks like you did a great job!
I saw a similar project on the Crafster.org message board. A crafty lady covered her beat-up dorm-size refrigerator with sheets of scrapbook paper, with great results. Nice thing about scrapbook paper is that it comes in a hojillion different patterns and colors, for a pretty low buy-in.

could this be done with the easy-peel wallpapers available now? Design Mom recently had a post on Sherwin-Williams peel-off wallpapers. Seems perfect for those who want to try this without committing wholeheartedly.

The manufacturers should grab this idea and run with it; making all appliances have easy frame panels to let the decorating be up to the buyers!

Kudos for the creativity and daring–how many would attempt something so bold?! I think it is cheery and beautiful–perhaps the people who don’t like it cannot imagine a different look in their own color preference?
