good morning! today i wanted to start with something crafty- a craft class to be specific! i’m a big fan of alyssa ettinger‘s work and was excited to hear that she’ll be offering two kinds of workshops from her studio: a hand-building ceramics class and a textural tile-making workshop (alyssa makes beautiful textures vases right here).
in the tile-making class students will take everyday objects- shells, leaves, fabric, rubber stamps, beads- and use them to create interesting impressions they’ll press into clay that they will then cut into tiles. in addition to everyday objects, alyssa will lend some of her favorite pieces to students, like chunks of depression-era mixing bowls, art-deco vases, arts and crafts bowls and parts of mccoy designs.
both workshops are six 2-3 hours sessions, held in alyssa‘s brooklyn studio. classes will be on weekday evenings (alyssa is waiting to choose the evening) and, for groups, will cost $400 per person (which includes materials, firing fees, and most glazes). if you’d like more training, you can also opt for a private one-on-one workshop for $500. if you’d like to sign up, or need more information, just shoot alyssa an email right here. i know the price may seem a bit steep, but these days i’m a big fan of gifts that keep on giving- and craft classes make a great wedding present, anniversary gift, lavish birthday present, or, if the recession hasn’t hit you yet, way to treat the person you love to something special- just because. happy crafting!

also- in guest blog news- jan has another lovely canadian interior up today. click here to check it out!
