this wall fixture from designer peter waltz puts a whole new spin on the idea of leaving the light on at home. i love the shadows this light casts, and the way it reminds me of the little tiny town in beetlejuice. in a good way. i want to stack a whole bunch of these on a table in my attic and see if something starts driving little cars through town. can you tell that ac and his friends kept me up all night playing left 4 dead? i need some sleep. and time away from boys wearing headsets while shooting pretend zombies.

in non-zombie related news, i’m also enjoying these drawing tops from designer thomas forsyth. i love the effortlessness with which you can create something original and beautiful. just plug in pen and go. click here for more information and click ‘play’ below to watch it in action. thanks, thomas!

Beautiful design finds..both finding inspiration from the child within.
The dollhouse idea is similar to the recent Rachel Whiteread exhibit at the MFA in Boston. She created a “village” of vintage dollhouses all lit from within. Beautiful and spooky. More info: http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions/sub.asp?key=15&subkey=6910
I feel your pain on the left 4 dead front. Jeff has noise-canceling headphones, so he can’t hear how loudly he’s talking into his microphone. Which means he is yelling, and also means he can’t hear me when I try to tell him that he is yelling… and unfortunately also means that I now know more than I want to about “smokers” and “boomers” and somebody named Zoey.

you just described my nightly routine. thanks for the laugh :)

these are BEAUTIFUL. so great. i want them both.
You laugh at us now, but you won’t be when we’re not there to defend you from the coming zombie hordes. Just you wait.
Also, those tops are neat. I once built a Lego robot that made similar stuff, but it’s since been disassembled to be made into a kitty toy (with a laser.)
Yes, all men are dorks.
thanks, jeff. if a “hunter” ever comes to my door, i know who to call :)

hahah thats too funny
i’m so used to my boyfriend playing left for dead that i can fall right asleep lol
They actually had tops with markers as tips when I was little! I remember I had two – a bright pink one and a neon green one. I made so many cool pictures with them!
Similar basic idea comparable to Forsyth’s drawing tops i have seen 2006 while Werkleitz Biennale” in Halle, Germany. For photos, see here: http://www.abvmob.de/fukkle/das-war-die-siebente-werkleitz/
i bet you could make those tops – just using a drilled-through wood… decorative piece (you know those ones at hardware stores, along with the bedknobs, etc.) and a rubber thing, that you also get at hardware stores (clearly I’m not versed in home repair vocabulary)

I love the way the light comes through the house windows (& the beautiful photo!). Tops where fun when I was a child. Hmm…maybe I should revisit this idea!
I remember as a child using tops similar to this idea. I’d hardly say that’s original. They used markers though. Same idea. I just found them on this site: http://www.homeschoolfreestuff.com/issues/33/33.html

i was saying that the drawings you create are original, not the idea. i’m familiar with tops that have pens attached ;)
