i’m moving a little slowly this morning as i’ve officially become bogged down by wedding stress. only a month to go and i’m starting to panic about somehow having everything come together. so please excuse me as i go freak out in the other room.

one thing that’s helping me calm down this morning though are these beautiful pieces from eleanor young of fun makes good. eleanor is a glasgow-based textile designer who lovingly reworks neglected furniture with striking upholstery and applied vinyl designs, bold geometric patterns and unusual color combinations. it’s always nice to see someone rescue a lost piece of furniture, so i thought this would be a great way to kick off before & after day. be back in a bit with some more great makeovers. click here for more of eleanor’s work…

Well, clearly fun does make good. I love the whimsical nature of these patterns–modern and geometrical without sacrificing spirit. Lovely, and thank you for posting this!
i love !!
Don’t worry. I got married last July and was so stressed during the last month it’s amazing I even got through it! But, everything came together just as it was supposed to and we had a beautiful day! It somehow all works out. Even if it isn’t precisely what you had planned, the important thing at the end of the day is that you are marrying the person you love. In the end, as long as that happens, you had a perfect wedding day! (at least that’s what all my friends told me, haha)
I hope it all goes well for you : )
I wish I were talented like this.
:)
I really love how she mixes the contemporary fabric applications with the traditional furniture shapes. Such well placed details… a real work of art. thanks for sharing!
Yes, weddings can be/are stressful.
But Danielle is right, it might not turn out precisely as you planned, but on the day that doesn’t really seem to matter. It’ll all flow beautifully. We did everything ourselves, and in hindsight I wish I had delegated a bit more.
In the end, on the day, let it all go and surrender yourself to having a wonderfully enjoyable joyful day! Wheeeee!
Oh and the chairs? They’re very lovely as my two year old daughter would say!
beautiful work!!!
I love this! Eleanor I think your onto something here. There’s a lot of bad DIY things out there but this is brilliant!
Amazing stuff here, wow. I always envision myself doing things like this with upholstery, but I’m too scared about having problems with the different fabrics stretching weirdly.
That white chair in the last two photos is seriously awesome. I want.
never would have thought to use quilting for upholstery—fabulous!
Well done! I love the white chair with the back legs in the last picture. Makes me want to do up my old chairs too (of which I have quite a few, to great annoyance of my boyfriend who just doesn’t understand why I bring all those wonderful old chairs home!).
These are amazing! You’ve featured tons of great reupholstery projects on D*S, but these are really extraordinary!
Wow! Those are brilliant! I am going to try my hand at upholstering one of these days. What an inspiration!
I’m loving that white chair with the origami like design!
i love the jolts of color against neutral backgrounds in some of the chairs. lovely lovely.
Fantastic!!!
I agree with Wayne. I am SO tired of all the bad DIY stuff that gets presented. These are original, artistic, well executed, and beautiful!
I love the asymmetrical details. That last chair is my fave!
wow! really love these chairs!
Enjoy this month Grace! Make sure you and your man slow down a few times to enjoy each other in this magical time!
Oh, and those chairs are fantastic!
aaah, these are so awesome!
I heart!
this pretty much blows my mind how cool this is. hyperbole, maybe, but this is really cool. i never would have thought of this!
Another great post, Grace (despite your wedding stress.) Another one for man make home (it’s Scotland after all!)
I have been married for almost 6 whole days now! I can say that for once the pessimist in me had to admit defeat as it all went perfectly and every stressful decision and compromise was worth it. You will have an amazing day too I’m sure.
i love these. what beautiful and original designs.
Hooray! Irony! Geometry! No sign of twee or fey anywhere for miles!
Hands down the BEST makeover ever!! The clean little geometric shapes and colors incorporated into the fabric make it 1000 times better than just an upholstered chair. LOVE!
wow! inspiring, original, and elegant (while still quirky in a good way). this is the kind of re-do i’d love to see more of. thanks!
