CONTEMPORARY BRITISH FURNITURE DESIGN

Furniture and product design are fields that have always intrigued me – the ability to combine artistic creativity with engineering is a rare and enviable skill. Below are only a sampling of the many incredible designers in the UK – but these are creations that I thought were particularly clever and original.

raw-edges-21
A set of colorful, stackable drawers (called ‘Stack’) from Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay at Raw Edges.

alexander-taylor1
The ‘Uniform’ chair by Alexander Taylor, which updates the classic classroom chair with plywood and red folded sheet metal.

voon-wong-and-benson-saw
A sleek and sophisticated set of tables that come together to form one large square called ‘Slicebox’ from Voon Wong & Benson Saw (amazing names, no?)

dylan-freeth
Dylan Freeth‘s ‘Divider Tables’ inspired by old school file dividers – those colors bring me back!

david-gates
A very cool asymmetric, oak collector’s cabinet called ‘Silo’ from David Gates.

jason-taylor-1
Hopefully the inspiration for Jason Taylor‘s ‘Scrub Together’ bench is pretty clear.

tna
The ‘Spin Recharge and Side tables’ which hide the annoying clutter of all our various chargers – from Tomoko Azumi and TNA Design Studio.

benjamin-hubert
Benjamin Hubert’s ‘Labware Lamps‘ which look like little corked beakers (I particularly love these!)

very-good-and-proper
A simple yet modern dining table from Very Good & Proper with a variety of top and leg combinations.

viable-london
Playful over the door ‘OTT Hooks’ by Viable London (these are from a few years ago – but just too great).

This is my first time to this site, I just love it so far. I love some of the furniture that has been mentioned here, so great designs.
