it’s been a long week and tomorrow morning i’m hopping on a plane to join some of my fellow design bloggers at the IDS blogging panel in toronto. so if you’re planning on attending the show please stop by and say hi! i’ve never been to toronto to i’m excited to get to check it out for a night.

on monday i’ll be back with the final installment of design by the book and tons of photos of all of the beautiful final work each artist made. it’s a must-see so please stay tuned for that on monday afternoon, as well as some great interiors. until then, i wanted to end the week with some lovely new textiles from marimekko’s spring 09 collection. i’m not loving all of the directions they’re moving in this spring, but a few of the patterns definitely caught my eye. click here to check them out at textile arts.

I am finding it very hard to justify not spending $250 on that poster. I hope that feeling is my heart breaking, and not a heart attack.
that was a busy week! Way to go D*S on a great week of reports -Dd
I love the print with the circles, it has such a Mary Blare feel. Such great colors in all of these.
Fun! I saw your name on the panel list — have a good time in T.O. and at the show!
i love the patterns you picked, grace. i work with marimekko fabric at my job everyday, but we never get any patterns like this! maybe we’ll see them a few years down the road…
BTW, if you are staying in downtown Toronto, definitely check out the Umbra store off of Queen Street West (165 john street). It is a bright pink building, you can’t miss it. When I went a few times last year, we ate breakfast at a little restaurant called Over Easy–it was in a hotel at 56 Yonge Street downtown.
Oh I could go on, but I had my wallpaper guide with me and checked out nearly everything in it and had a great time. Have fun, stay warm!
The new patterns are fab. I especially love the last one with the graphic goblets.
You’re going to love Toronto, it’s the best city on the planet (no, i’m not biased, i live here!). If you need local suggestions, feel free to email.
I’m heading over to IDS tomorrow and will definitely look for you, this is one of my all time favorite blogs, it would be great to meet you.
Thank you so much for the fun and lovely night yesterday at the beautiful NYPL. My kids (10 and 14)went there with me and it was a wonderful opportunity to share with them my passion for design and tell them how you can get inspiration for your work, and even for your whole life! The only thing my older son said in negative was “there’s no more cupcakes! ” I bought Clear Tiger song from ITunes but I missed the zine… :( have a wonderful trip! (oh, and btw:I love the first and the last pattern)
I don’t like most of Marimekko’s designs! I guess I should as I am a Finn but I don’t… I did like Kevätilta though, in green. And I do like some of their more peaceful patterns but not the ones with big prints and way too many colors (for my taste).
I read your blog almost every day. Toronto is Fab! Hope that you enjoy your time there! I am headed there tomorrow as well, fingers crossed I will try and check out your seminar on Sunday!
Wow, those patterns are amazing! I love Marimekko. My favorite is the first one you posted.
I really love marimekko…although I don’t always like what they produce I have great respect for everything they do.
Ohhh Toronto! Makes me miss Ontario big time…loooove Toronto! Head to Queen West if you can, love the vibe there! :)
I LOVE the new designs. Awesome. Must hit up the local shop Tuuli that carries all of it!
Just ordered the paris metro print (the medium one). How could something that feels so wrong be so right?!?!? Thanks for following through with that!
Wow! Those designs are great! I love the colors, shapes and whimsy of the all. Hope you have fun in Toronto! Dress warm :)
cheers,
Lisa
So gorgeous. But then again, Marimekko can do no wrong in my eyes! xx
Does anyone know of any good travel sites geared towards design lovers?
I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone know any good travel websites geared towards design lovers like us?
I really like your webside. I read it almost every day.

Really love the goblet print.
Oh wow, these prints are so nice… Esp. love the last one!
these are gorgeous. i love the third print most! cheers, -p.p.
I LOVE these prints, so distinctive and colorful.
First of all, I love design sponge. What an awesome site. Laura, to answer your question about travel sites. I love a site called girlsguidetotheworld.com. It is a very design/fashion conscious travel site.
I’ve seen Marimekko designs around me my whole life. (I’m from Finland), and they give me a home like feeling. Love them! I’ve lived in Toronto, it’s amazing! My favorite restaurant around Queen (good shopping around that area) is ‘East!’ which has great Asian food. While visiting Toronto, I always stop by at Ontario College of Art and Design (right of Queen Street), my old college. The building is worth to see, and they often have an interesting gallery going on in the downstairs hall.

well, i’m a bit biased, but anne from pretavoyager (who is one of d*s’ editors) runs a fabulous travel blog with a great eye for design:

grace

Becky, I am totally with you. Girls Guide to the World. http://www.girlsguidetotheworld.com is amazing. Laura, definitely check it out if you are looking for a really well designed travel site. I heard it was created by an interior designer in Sydney.
