this creative before & after comes from d*s reader nia sayers. she transformed this antique twin headboard and one side rail into a clever bench seat! i love the way she thought outside of the box and made the best of an antique frame that doesn’t fit modern day box springs and mattresses. great work, nia!

wow, i love this!!! its so fun to see the creative things people come up with on here! I’d never have thought to make a bench from a headboard, but let me tell you — now i’m scouring craigslist for a cool headboard!
Now THAT’s innovative. I love it.
Wow–that’s ingenious. My family used to make furniture ages ago and “converted” furniture into new pieces. My office desk used to be a baby grand piano. I particularly like the bench next to that crazy pink candle holder.
ooh, i love this before and after. very cool!
brilliant!
So beautiful and thoughtful!
I’d love to see that piano desk!
Wow this is gorgeous, I SO wasn’t expecting the after! Has the side table been altered as well? It looks like 1/3 of it’s been cut off so it sits flush against the wall – also ingenious!
The bench is adorable, as is the sweet scalloped table next to it.
how creative! and practical!
Fabulous bench! Do you have a how-to?
What a great transformation. I’m jealous of the creativity!
Love it! How creative and beautiful!
this is brilliant!
LOVE IT!! i wish there was a pic of the underside and side so I could see how she constructed it!! Very COOL! I have my mom’s old full size bed that could be awesome as a bench- it does not fit modern mattresses very well.
Love this one – it’s brilliant. My mum has a garden bench which my dad made from a wrought iron bedstead – same idea.
what a FAB idea!!
How funny…I just got through making one of these myself!
i love this!
So smart and creative. Love it.

Any chance we can get a how to? This is fabulous.
What a fantastic idea.
