these two before & afters represent both ends of the makeover spectrum- big changes, and smaller updates. this first makeover belongs to art director justin lieb and her crenshaw loft. i love the whimsical way she turned this raw space into a playful home full of color and whimsical abstract wall clouds. click here to see additional photos of the loft.

Spankin’ awesome transformation!!! I love the colorfulness
how can this people living in such big space without using lots of energy… live simple, use small spaces, and think on the planet !
Absolutely love your transformations!!! Fabulous!!! I love your blog!
I love the black! It totally glams it up and highlights the beautiful structural lines! Stunning!
The drippy paint effect is GORGEOUS!
um, i bet that loft is actually a pretty small space…
I love the paint drips and the grass/sky!
it appears to be pretty skylit, too – i bet lighting it isn’t too bad at all.
I LOVE THAT CHAIR!! What a lovely transformation. Great job ladies!
OMG…PLEASE ask justin how she did the drippy paint technique. Pleaseohplease! I would love to try this in our basement.
That chair takes my breath away. Brilliant!
Love the Paint effect wish I had seen it before I had my place painted I would not have been so hard on my Painter for his less than perfect “cutting in” and I would have a 10x cooler office…
Thanks for all the amazing ideas.
Thanks for the nice comments!
The mushroom shelves are from curiosity shoppe and are made out of wood. The drippy paint effect was achieved in a variety of but most efficiently by saturating a paint roller with paint and pressing it against the wall like squeezing a sponge. We do have high ceilings but because we are in Los Angeles do not need to use heat often and do not use ac. The skylights provide light for all our daylight hours so it’s pretty efficient!
Any chance of finding out who makes the chair fabric – it’s stunning!
Sarah, isn’t the fabric wonderful! I have the same fabric in orange and brown on my Heywood Wakefield dining chairs. We bought the fabric online at Interiormall.com – fabric name is Whriligig-Rainbow. Would love to see what you do with the fabric.
Dripping paint. Wow that is cool! I love the space, it looks fantastic.
Not too wild about the paint drips, but the grass is really cool. And that chair looks gorgeous!
You know how sometimes something just grabs you? Wow! This loft did that to me. I live in a “mini Frank Lloyd Wright contemporary style” home that has architectural design that is similar. It has challenged me at times to decorate, however. I think I now have some inspiration!
Thank you! Could you provide the paint brand and colors used for all of the wall designs (clouds, drips, grass, etc.)? An artist has certainly made those warm and delicious choices!
Thanks Sharon, that’s really sweet! Unfortunately, I don’t have the paint colors or brands as they are leftovers from previous sets and I mixed them myself to suit my needs. The brown wall was a basic umber brown to which I added white (a lighter shade above the stairs and a darker one below, and the same is true for the clouds and walls. The lighter shade is an eggshell base where as the greener blue is flat. I finished the “grass” with a polyurethane to make it last longer. I think all the brands are behr because it is cost efficient and decent.
I know I didn’t answer your questions but I hope it helps!
I have such a THING about chairs! And this one, well, I just want to just MARRY it! Nice work Julia! (nice name too)
