ok, i’m having a serious design dilemma. part of me totally loves these flinstone-ian chunky furniture pieces from the design team snodevormgevers, and part of me recoils in ick from the heavyness of them. have i lost my mind? i don’t normally put a vote out on things, but in the spirit of my favorite fashion website, go fug yourself, i thought i’d throw this one out to you guys. fug or fab? i’m leaning towards fug right now…

this is not good.
I have to go with ugly.
super tacky
I have to say….FUG!! I think with the heaviness of the pieces they need to be lightened with a POP!! of color! Wouldn’t the side table or burner be just FAB in Tangerine or Chartreuse? I sure think so, then they would look ultra fab mixed in to my mid century mod decor!!!
Have to agree – Fug.
I’m going to have to vote fug. it’s just too clunky and plastic.
Sigh, these just don’t do it for me. I feel the same way about the MAMMUT series from Ikea (though I do own one little pink stool which isn’t so bad).
HAHA! Funny post. It’s a bit heavy for me personally, but like everything is: its all about context. This look could work very well in the right place.
They fit the set for Yo Gaba Gaba but for your home…I don’t think so.
I like the outdoor fireplace and the stump.. cute in the right environment.
The cabinet is definitely fug.
I hear you on this one – it’s almost awesome. Almost. Imagine for a moment, though, that you’re going to try and make furniture out of cardboard and spray paint. This is what it would end up looking like, no?
I vote Fab. Because I just like snodevormgevers :-) The link to their website is dead, there is an ‘l’ missing.
….good in moderation? not really my style though.
I actually really like the sidetable! Allthough I definately think, just as Brice said, that it would be really nice in a bright colour! Imagine it in a quite minimalistic surrounding and in bright yellow… Like!
they are a bit intriguing, but, in my opinion, a bit too heavy. i don’t think i could live with a piece like that for too long.
just fixed the url- thanks for catching that!
yo gabba gabba- hysterical. that show is a trip…
they’re great! you have to try to imagine them in your house next to your spindly-legged sideboards and your hairpin coffee tables. the contrast would be lovely.
and they’re not made of plastic, they’re thin sheet metal folded quite brilliantly.
I kind of like the fireplace, too.
LOVE this work ….We need more of this in our lives. Very creative and adorable……GO GO GO
I like them. I wouldn’t put them in a set, but on there own, interesting.
I like it!
I think it’s fabulous in it’s fugness:)
Adore that little fireplace.
ew. except the outdoor fire thing. also, thank you so much for the link to fug! hi-larious.
fug- not a fan.
I don’t find them any worse than the other highly conceptual furniture out there. I look at it in terms of not being done before, and therefore is really interesting. I wouldn’t necessarily put it in my house, but it would be awesome in a studio or something, as a conversation piece.
I’m leaning towards indifferent, but think that in bright primary colours, some of these pieces would be great in a kid’s room.
I am going to say FUG. Alone they are great pieces, but trying to put together a whole decor around these pieces is not going to be easy.
thumbs up for the idea
thumbs down for the execution
these are weird, for sure. i can see why you are torn. the link to fug made my day :)
I think they’re fab!
well I am surprised at the “vote”. I was expecting to see more evenly split. I myself love them, in a minimalist environment!
Actually, I quite like them! I don’t think they’ll work in a wide variety of environments, but when/where they do work, I think they’ll work great!
i like them, if only because it’s a change from the saturation of mid century modern.
I think it’s a little too Flinstones for me.
i like them, but only one at a time. I think they would give a room a fun, whimsical touch.
fab – i like it.
i don’t care for the color too much but there is something fun about them.
for whimsical furniture i am more partial to http://www.dustfurniture.com
My vote’s fab. Especially after “tim” clarified they’re made out of thin folded sheet metal. I like that contrast!
The furniture is almost off-putting on its own, but I could image enjoying it in the right space.
I CANNOT say the same thing about the stuffed raven or barn owl. Yuck! There is nothing worse than seeing a once living creature put on display for the sake of some sort of ironic design fad.
yeah…. let’s go with fug
Meh, I’d be sick of looking at it in less than a year.
Well, with all the “fug” votes here, I bet the designers are glad that they made them recyclable ….
I think the fireplace is appropriate, but the set in it’s entirety is much too cartoonish.
very fug.
BUT, it would maybe be cute in a themed kids playroom…
No thanks. I’m not so into furniture that looks like a strange mix between Bedrock and Pleasantville (before the color came along, of course). I’ll keep my classic tv looks for my tv viewing pleasure.
Uggg-leeee!
Like the side table, but the cabinet is too much.
I think the fire place is ok…pretty fab outside on a chilly night but the rest is FUGTASTIC.
i like em! fab.
I have a love/hate relationship with these. Love because they are so unique and strangely fascinating (they’ve spurned this whole conversation). Hate because I would not actually ever put them in my home (kids room, maybe) – they are too conceptual. If I saw these in a domestic setting I would think, “Are those borrowed from a theatrical set?!”
Fab! It’s all about context and juxtopostion…
like a couple other posters, I really like the fireplace but don’t like the other pieces.
Fugly!
ugh…fug!
My rule is: if you have to ask, it’s fub.
Of all the days to start adding a negative, snarky tone to this web site you pick today? Really? If this is going to turn into “look at how ugly this design work is” this will just become a time-waster site instead of an inspiration site.
I like the furniture, hate the fashion website. Maybe I’m just too old to appreciate this sort of thing, but it’s rather offensive to me.
I’m leaning fug, although I can sort of see the good intention in it.
And by the way, I am in LOVE with the fug girls, those girls crack me up on a daily basis, the bootaloons post should win a pulitzer (or whatever the equivalent prize is for blogging)
FUggg
none of it’s really my style, but I too can see the outdoor fireplace working in a casual backyard. the rest leans too far to the fug side of things for me… may be fun for a zany kids room.
It’s super-fuggy.
Have a sense of humor, H. It’s a vote, not an attack. Maybe you’ve forgotten about all the traffic this post will send their way?
I, personally, would love to see fewer whiny comments so I say good luck finding a site that doesn’t have voting on it or comments about furniture that are negative.
And bringing Obama into it? That’s low. It’s a design site, not the news. Plus, the comment section goes berserk when D*S posts about politics so maybe you should talk to THOSE people about being negative.
Kaitlin
I feel like they could be cute, but they are too self concious. That being said, what if they, were, say gilded and presented in a pared-down cabin….maybe with a platform bed and a (faux of course) bearskin rug…
I dunno, I feel like they are almost there….
I think it completely depends on what kind of room they were in. They would not look good in my home, but maybe for someone else…I’m sure there are people who would appreciate this design.
Love it. May be the owl though, I’ve not been able to get over owls.
Total fug, but I see how you could go back and forth. I too love gofugyourself. I’m liking the vote :-)
it’s sort of tempting in the way that sometimes you find yourself wearing something you thought was cute and vintagy but in fact is just costumey and you feel kinda silly afterwards.
I have a stevie nicks ren-faire maiden that pokes her head out sometimes.
but unless you committed to an alice in wonderland, or some other fairy tale look, i would leave it alone.
that said, i do like that they are thinking outside the box and I admire that.
i’m sure someone could make it work in the right context. perhaps i lack the imagination to think of what that context would be?
maybe they could style a room with the pieces in it and that would help.
Awe, I love that small sideboard.
I think it’s very cute. I also think that it sorta has it’s place however. It would not work everywhere. Possibly very sweet in a child’s bedroom as a toy cabinet, cute in a dinning room alongside some Eames chairs with eiffel bases. I think it would even look lovely in a living room, across from a white low-to-the-floor basic couch and a white furry rug. Maybe even a large crystal chandelier! Lovely. Yes.
I can’t decide!
Cute in the right environment — especially the stove!
I love them! I think they would be reeeally cool in a minimalist modern-meets log cabin type room.
i can totally dig it. in the right room, i think the pieces could be great.
I’d say FAB, but that is just because I (we, as snodevormgevers) made them, hehe hi..
love the comments by the way (even the fug ones).
They are made of folded steel, not cardboard or plastic.
Keep on writing, cheers!
major fug!
The wood burning stove is fantastic!!! Put it in a room with with a hearty hard wood floor..clean but COZY fabrics and some peaceful/glowing light all around.. hands down it would be my favorite room! Oh and add a breath of white twinkle lights to boot!! :^[) hehehe
fugfugfug
and thank you, kaitlin…
I think the fire is lovely!
I’d like the first piece better if it didn’t have the short ‘branches’ poking out the sides.
Bonus points for Josef for stopping by and commenting here!!
Every time I look at these, I cannot help but think they came from the children’s section at IKEA…
So for ‘big kids’, my vote goes to fug.
i like the top cabinet but the branch handles do look a bit weird. might work better with less conspicuous (and dangerous – i can just see myself walking into them) handles.
i certainly don’t love these pieces but i don’t hate them either. i’m agreeing with Sydney – i too think that, in the right setting, they could look amazing.
and good on ya Josef for stopping by… you got guts :)
Fug!
FUG! Fuggissimo, even.
In a few months, you’d be asking yourself what drugs you were on…
what’s fab is your use of the adjective “flinstonian.”
the furniture i’m not so sure about…
Chop up the cabinet and table and feed them into the wood stove, then smelt it down and start over. Wow. Did anyone check out their website and see the stuffed warthog next to the wood stove? Island of Dr. Moreau FUGLY.
fug
i think the cabinet and stool would be great painted white
I would like to clarify the stuffed animals, this work is part of the exhibition “Stuffed” (www.stuffed-expo.nl), we borrowed the animals from the MEC in Eindhoven (mec stands for mileu educatie centrum/ enviromental education centre) the have a large collection of stuffed local animals in cabinets in their attic (mostly found dead and brought there to be stuffed, or donated by zoo’s and individuals), because this collection can’t be shown at their premises due to the size of their exhibition space, we asked them to lend us part of their exhibition. This was a starting point of the exhibition stuffed, showing our facination of human created nature. 16 designers and artists used the collection as inspiration for new work. Or work is called “herenkamer 1953/ gentleman’s room 1953” a diorama setting where the animals become the inhabitants of a space where they can relax, read a book, smoke a fine cigar and enjoy a cognac or a whiskey.
Fug- they look like they’re ‘carved’ from Rubbermaid plastic.
fug – looks cheap and a like it would be made out of cardboard with numbers on the pieces to put it together.
Nice for a children’s room (except the open fire of course), not so much for my living room.
But their name is absolutely fab (funny in Dutch)
i think it might be something in a large minimalist space. but only there. for ordinary homes it’ll be really fug, as i see it…
I would have to say, fab. Just because I love pieces that would make a visitor say, “that’s interesting.” And that makes me usually love it all the more. It makes it fun to have a few quircky pieces.
I thought it was alright until I went to their website and saw that their logo is a naked woman with stars over her nipples. I’m ruined on it.
love the outdoor fireplace, but the other pieces are yabbadabba no in my home – but i totally agree with the right place, the right piece. could work somewhere!
fug it
this is just not cute. not even a little bit.
I hate to vote them off the island right here in this public forum but it’s a bit too bedrock for me….However, I could see it in bright glossy green or bright white, MAYBE but the drab tones, not so much for me.
i like ‘em. especially the cabinet. i think they’re a little bit too imaginative to be found at ikea. i agree with others–they would be nice in white or bright colors.
They’re adorable!
that being said, I still wouldn’t want them in my space.
Yuck. Fug.
I think a lot of you would disagree with the fug factor if these were available in just plain white…especially with the whole faux bois craze, I’ve seen a lot of plain white faux boix stuff.
I love the outdoor fireplace! The furniture mmmmmmmmm…not so much!
FAB. I love the way the facets reflect the light.
I think they are interesting, and could be stimulating to have to try and present in your space…but as objects w/o context, they are dumb.
Fugugly!
Nup. Fug.
Fugly! Fugly! Words cannot express how wrong these pieces are. It’s like Hans Christian Anderson dropped acid in a melamine factory. My eyes…..
It’s chunk and it gives me an instant headache. same with the Mammut Ikea range. It’s designed for chunky little kids like gnomes or something. We should put away such childish things except for bright colors, why are they only for kids?

agree word for word

Super!
saw them in milan, nice thin steel light and fascinating, cool guys and interesting projects
