cut, turn, cut, turn

over the holiday break i did a fair amount of crafting. whether it was stamping, sewing or paper-related, i managed to break out my craft baskets a fair amount and use some materials i’d been dying to try. one craft i’ve always wanted to master, but still haven’t, is paper cutting. so i thought i’d start the day with this gorgeous piece i saw on katy elliott’s site, which comes from elsita at the heart of paper cuts. if i could make something like this i would be one happy lady.

speaking of being a happy lady- if anyone is looking for some fun books to read, i’ve been thoroughly enjoying the southern vampire series (aka, the sookie stackhouse books/true blood) courtesy of my soon to be sister-in-law. i read 6 out of the 8 books over the last two weeks and they’re a really fun winter read.

my goodness that is stunning!

I’ve been trying to track down Dead Till Dark so I can start reading those books but our library doesn’t have it. I’ve ended up really enjoying the True Blood series so I am sure the books will be just as good to read

I really liked True Blood and was a little curious as to next season, so I might give the books a go!

the books are a little different than the hbo series, but they’re still fun. hbo changed some characters and a few events around but it’s still a great read on a cold winter day.

Elsita has some major papercutting and paper cut design skills. Her style is unmistakably delicate and whimsical. Good luck with your new crafting challenge.

How great is her blog? She has all kinds of great resources–paper cutting, blogs about paper cutting and paper cutting etsy shops!

I bought a print of elista’s a few months ago and love!

I’m a big fan of her work, too – I wish I could afford some original papercuttings, though I guess the cat would just chew em up anyway.
and I’ve just gotten into the sookie stackhouse books too – good wintertime reading indeed :)

Very pretty but have a look at Tom Gallants work. He creates the most beautiful (and somewhat controversial) paper cut-outs. They are complex and captivating, just seeing the level of skill and artistry behind them is mind boggling.
