d*s reader megan is based in singapore and sent along this fun and affordable before & after. after picking up an inexpensive stool (the bekvam, $19.99) at ikea, megan decided that she wanted to give it a different look. so she stained the wood a darker color, added foam to the top and upholstered it with toile fabric so that her once generic-looking step stool can double as occasional seating for parties or when guests are over. thanks for sharing, megan!
if you have a before & after project you’d like to share on d*s just shoot me an email with your pictures right here.

PERFECT!
I loved it.
Congratulations for the blog, I read it everyday =*
That’s a great idea.
that’s a great use for ikea stuff, which can start out so plain! I love making something inexpensive your own like that.
A cat throne, now that is a great idea. I have one of those stools I need to put together. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is just great…thank you so much for sharing these projects. (And the cat is photogenic, too!) My brother-in-law works for IKEA & loves to see what people come up with to personalize their purchases. Brava, Megan!
I love the idea of it, but is this being used as a stepping stool? Because in that case fabric probably wasn’t the best route.
I love buying these as cheap nightstands. They fit in tight corners and you can always decoupage them into something lovely!
A great idea and beautifully executed.
Wow, I really love that. I might need to buy some furniture.
Wow. I was scrolling through my various RSS feeds and I saw these photos. I somehow thought this was a photoshop tutorial for … adding a cat…
Leave it to a cat to find the best seat in the house.
great idea! It seems an antique french furniture.
Está genial, parece un mueble antiguo francés, muy bonito.
