before and after: lindsey and chris’ tv stand

what a fun way to makeover a tv stand- d*s readers lindsey and chris love the minimal look of scandinavian furniture so they decided to convert a $99 piece they bought on sale at ikea. they felt that the tv unit looked too cramped with all of their electronics inside so they constructed removable panels to hide the shelves. chris creatd the panel frames from birch lumber and stained them to match the stand. when he was done lindsey wove the webbing herself and attached it with a staple fun. one saturday afternoon later, they have a new tv unit! great work guys, thanks for sharing!

what material are the woven pieces made out of? Is it just fabric, or is it an elastic?

OMG… I need to do this stat. Before my puppy completes his mission of systematically taking all the buttons & knobs off my DVD player.

Nice job!! Thx for the inspiration!

yeah! i want a staple fun too!
i love the webbing idea. i’m looking around the house now for somewhere to apply it….

Wow, impressive that they did it themselves. Very clever idea. Though I do feel like to be on design*sponge they need to paint it purple or silver or something, haha!

gorgeous! i wonder..is it possible to switch on and off your DVD (or CD) player with remote with the panels on?

I’m actually not the biggest fan of the finished product, but the process is so simple and genius, I wonder what else it could be applied to?

Very Nice, I love to see desperation turned into innovation. Because the before shot was pretty desperate. I would also love to see that TV go bye bye. Keep up the good work!

Ack.
I like the before better.

It would have been better with fabric panels maybe. The woven basket thing just looks messy.

Thanks everyone for your comments! The material that we used is upolstery webbing, which you can find by the yard at most fabric stores. We surprised to find that we can use our stereo and dvd remote through the fabric.

Very nice results. Just wondering…How did you attached the panels to the tv stand? How do you open them?

Tandy

I really like the panels, but I can’t help but wonder how they’ll look after they’ve been handled repeatedly. I would like to adapt this idea to suit my kid and pet filled household. Nice work and thanks for the inspiration!
