The kitchen can be one of the most expensive rooms in the house to remodel, but with a little creativity you can do a lot for a little. We are currently having a little affordable modern kitchen contest over at Grassrootsmodern, and it’s amazing the kitchens that some people are doing for a fairly reasonable price. With our remodel we were definitely feeling poor when we got to the kitchen, so we kept it as basic as possible. We got all our cabinetry from Ikea, and we were really impressed with the quality of it, especially considering what it costs. We went with the SORBO fronts with birch edges to compliment our Ikea flooring. Our countertops are the ikea NUMERAR butcher-block which are an amazing value for the price. Our sink was an Elkay undermount single tub that we got for around $300 and the faucet was a Pegasus from Home Depot for $189. We kept our LG refrigerator an added a new Ikea oven and a Bosch gas cooktop. The one thing we splurged a little on was the Bosch dishwasher. With all our cabinetry and appliances (minus the fridge) the whole thing cost under $5,000.

Where did the carpet tiles come from? We’ve been looking for some to use in our own kitchen, but didn’t know where to start!
I’ve been really tempted by those cabinets at IKea – how do you like them all put together?
I have flipped two houses this year – one house we put in IKEA cabinets – and I loved them. The new homeowners, do as well and in both of the flips we put in the butcher block countertops. They are fabulous!
Your kitchen looks great! Thanks for showing it.
Wow, the kitchen looks great! We are about to do the same for ours (new cabinets/countertops/appliances) and are strongly leaning towards IKEA. Glad to hear others like the quality!
I have noticed from reading blogs etc that American kitchen appliances are so much bigger than here in Europe. We have only caught on to the American Fridge in the last couple of years!!
