Go outside, pick up some gravel, spray paint it silver and glue it to a cardboard box.
grace, i can hear you giggling as you wrote that title. cheeseball. ;)
I kinda hafta agree with queenpretty. I feel like this is a project that you could make a version of at home…
I’d use silver leaf, a wooden box and geods…as a good friend of mine says, “All you need is a glue gun and a dream.”
;)
Or, there’s always Etsy Alchemy…
I’m usually one for buying from the original artist, but it’s not like Kelly Wearstler is sitting in a studio crafting these by hand herself. And the price is exhorbitant and not reflective of the actual cost of making the box.
But it’s totally gorgeous.
I think what makes this box beautiful is the natural gems & solid metal boxes.
Those can be expensive, I think a chunk of just quartz is around $20.
This box would still cost about $300 to make and not look cheesy.
This looks like something my daughter made in preschool. I loved her box of course, but I hate this.
kelly wearstler, eh? I find her style off-putting. Though this box is cool.
I was flipping through the latest Domino (I think), and came across this box. I fell in love with it instantly, and was wondering who made it, and how much. It’s so great that Grace posted it here and spilled the detail beans.
I of course can not afford such luxuries, but I will be trying to make something like this for myself.
Thanks Grace!
Well, some of us would rather keep their rocks inside the box.
My original comment was meant to be snarky, sure, but I do think this is very fantastic. I wouldn’t pay $3000 for a box of anything, though, unless it was maybe a box with $4000 in it. Is that the thing with design, though, that half the wanting is because it’s unattainable?
Did anyone see the latest Domino Magazine featuring Kelly Wearstler? Ok. So. Ah. Eh. Well. Um. I think she has the conscience of an artist. But her house is awful. The painting above her couch reminds me of puss. And her office is way too crowded! I love her public space design and her individual accesories but, unfortunately, when it comes to practicality in a home she misses.
Yeah, you know I was thinking about that article and her place looks cool and everything but it seems like more of a style statement than a place to actually LIVE.
Darn Kelly Wearstler and her pricey fabulousness!
Hmm, yeah. Not really into this. Maybe with smaller stones?
