d*s in domino: holy smokes

when i received my november issue of domino i had to do a double take when i flipped to page 39. to see my own silly mug grinning back at me was definitely one of the most surreal moments of the past 4 years. d*s was featured as part of their story on design blogs- you can click here to read the full-sized text and here for a little site makeover before & after. i just wanted to say a big thank you to domino and to all of you reading, it’s such an honor to have this job and talk to you every day. i don’t want to bug anyone with too much talk about the article (i know that’s not what you’re here to read), so instead i just wanted to welcome any new readers from domino and give them a quick overview of what’s happening at d*s these days.

weekly content: in addition to (4-5) regular daily posts on great new products, shops and designers, we feature at least one original article per day. here is a quick breakdown of the schedule:

  • mondays: every monday we feature two “sneak peeks” into the homes of our favorite artists and designers. we try to focus on homes that are a good combination of inspiration and real-world attainability. click here to see the 170 homes we’ve featured so far.
  • tuesdays: every tuesday we feature a guide of some sort, whether it’s a product guide or a city guide. we currently have over 36 city guides, 47 product guides (desks, dining chairs, etc.), and 10 misc. guides like a guide to letterpress designers, gift guides and wedding registry ideas (just scroll down to the bottom of the page)
  • wednesdays: wednesdays are all about diy projects. our diy editors lauren and derek will post a fantastic new project on the site every wednesday at 1pm. click here for their archives
  • thursdays: thursdays are for before & after furniture and home makeovers
  • fridays: every friday we feature a recipe, called “in the kitchen with“, from one of our favorite designers or artists. click here to view the recipes we’ve featured over the past year and a half.

Congrats! I believe your blog was the first I ever followed way back when I barely knew what a blog was.
I love your sunshine cinema poster to death! I did an hour internet hunt trying to find anyone who might be selling theirs, but came up empty handed.

Grace-as usual you look beautiful in your media coverage! You are definitely blessed with being photogenic! Is it funny having your life’s work reduced to a few blurbs? I thought the caption over your living room picture was funny-something about having moved from your “IKEA” phase to Danish furniture-it made you sound like much more of a design neophyte-but we all know better!

Pam

this was so exciting to see! I am so glad all your hard work is getting appreciated – we all owe you so much for all your support of small design businesses! many congrats!

It was great to get my copy this weekend and see you and your lovely home. It almost made up for the fact that Domino featured the insufferable Eddie from Top Design in the same issue.

I was wondering — David Hicks and Kelly Wearstler? I can’t say I would have predicted that (not that they aren’t both great, just that they don’t seem the most “you”).

Brooke

Grace,
I’ve been reading (and getting inspired by) your website for 2 years now and I couldn’t think of a better, and more talented person to be getting all this great attention.

Congratulations!

It was a very well deserved feature! You have so much content, organization, and ideas here, and as a blogger myself, I know exactly how much work this all takes. You know what they say about hard work?! It pays off! You totally earned it.

Jamie

I was introduced to your site through Domino a couple days ago. Consider me loyal already. How did I live without you before? And, I may “borrow” your tomato paint color to transform one of the walls in my bland kitchen. Beautiful!

G-
I skimmed through Domino on Sunday and finally started reading it last night, I exclaimed out loud “no way!” when I saw your mug in the mag. So proud to know you and be part of the *Sponge following. I truly admire you for doing what you do on a daily basis. You are a wonderful source of inspiration! Warm thoughts from Sunny San Francisco. -N

LOVE the article in Domino…Just reviewing my last few issues. Would you mind sharing the source of your ikat-looking coverlet on your bed. I’d love to get one like it. Thank you!!

Autumn

Do you not like your ankles? I am just curious. In both photos you have your hand over them. :)

grace

ha- i never noticed that. i think it’s just a way i naturally sit. i don’t have any problems with my ankles ;)

Mary Ann

I have been looking through old dominos and came to this picture of your bedroom. I absolutely would love that quilt. Do you know where it came from?
