one of the areas in which i wish i had more expertise is japanese design. there are so many fantastic designers and stores coming from tokyo and beyond- but sadly my range of local contacts is rather limited. so i was thrilled to hear from rumi nagata this morning. rumi works at the uber-chic tokyo stationery store, winged wheel. winged wheel just recently opened an english online store (yes!) so you can shop from their selection of beautiful, simple paper goods. this new animal series is my favorite of the lot- each one is letterpressed onto a 100% cotton card and available in a set of 6 for $15. click here to check out their collection online.

also- d*s (as well as AT and some other fantastic sites) was featured in the ny times today. thanks so much to penelope green for giving me the opportunity to showcase some of my favorite artists in the market right now. it’s always so great to see indie designers in the mainstream news. click here for the full piece (each blog’s profile and product choices are on the left)

Konnichiwa (Hello) Grace,
We are soooo happy that you introduced our cards!
Thank you so much :)
Rumi from Tokyo
these are super cute
Congrats on the feature!
I always find myself drooling over amazing Japanese design only to find that the entire site is in Japanese and I have no way of purchasing anything! Thanks for finding these adorable cards that we can actually buy.
I love the die cut shapes. that’s what makes these cards so unique and interesting.
LOVE!
Very cool! And this could be done with other objects besides animals as well.
cool!
question.. what’s the brand of that fountain pen on the second pic?
This made me so happy!
Congratulations on the NYT feature! I was so excited to see your blog mentioned and your design choices. I kind of felt like I was in on the secret because I recognized Design*Sponge right away (but I know I’m only one of thousands and thousands)! I love your blog and can’t wait to check it daily. Thanks for such a great place to spend my online time!
thanks jennifer :)
