i always love the furniture makeover’s olga sends us- she always takes a re-do a few steps past repainting and does something really interesting. this time she added car mirrors to her table to create a really unique piece. but what really grabs me is the fact that she glued little white buttons to the edges- those are really fantastic. click here for olga’s full project and more pictures.
another thing i’m loving today: artist marnie spencer- her artwork (and website!) are seriously gorgeous.

So adorable! But I’d be terrified I would knock the buttons off.
Hmm, truth be told I could do without the mirrors, but otherwise I love the brightness, and the balls on the edge are even kind of cute, definitely unique.
i saw this on her blog – its awesome. she’s really creative.
while i do like the after, this is one of the few times i love the before more. that said, she is such an amazing and creative person- i’d love to see what her home looks like!
I appreciate the creativity, and the re-purposing, and the making it your own, I really do. But with most of these before-and-afters I just wonder Why oh WHY people are ruining good furniture! “making it new” doesn’t do much good if the new thing dates itself so quickly. I can imagine that those poofs and mirrors will get old fast. the “before” was timeless and lovely. [sigh]
i hate to knock ones creativity, but the quiet, chic craftsmanship of the table is underminded by mirrors and buttons..and maybe even paint.
I totally appreciate the effort that goes into something like this – taking the time to do it and experiment is more than most people can do! What I think would be really fun is to somehow get that blue delft type pattern on the teapot onto the table (minus the mirrors). But it’s a bit after the fact :)
honestly, I prefer the ‘before’ picture better. I’m not really into antiques, but it’s a hansome piece of furniture. sorry, but perhaps it will make another appearance in a before/after photo when somebody strips the paint off and removes those ugly knobs.
Yeah, I have to agree that the “after” kinda ruins the piece. The mirrors are just too much.
ditto the detractors, esp lillibet. unfortunately, i just can’t get into this, or most of the painted before/afters, save the daybed and the metal cabinet. it’s like there’s no soul coming through that thick pottery barn paint finish (i’ve bought plenty of pb stuff; just don’t like their furniture). and i don’t even know what to say about the mirrors.
hobnail effect is sorta cute in a country way.
not for my home, but i think it *would* look cute sans mirrors in a childrenswear shop, with little baby clothes stacked on it!
I like the before, too, but sometimes when I see the afters, I think, ‘I would have never thought of that…’
I saw this on Craftster a little while ago, and yet again I am in love with Olga’s work. I’m always excited to see her new transformations, and I really love the buttons and white paint here. Yes, the car mirrors aren’t really my aesthetic, but overall it’s a really lovely redo. Seriously LOVE the buttons!
All the before needed was a little wax…kinda sad. :(
Olga, I love your before and afters!
Hmmmm! I have to agree with most. It will take hours to restore that beautiful piece to the before. Absolute disrespect for the old and not broken.
I’m with the majority. Waste of a nice bit of wood. If you want to paint things, why not use that MDF stuff?
So adorable! she is such an amazing and creative person- i’d love to see what her home looks like! Actually, it goes really well with my pink room! Fun and super clean!
I probably would have kept the table before or maybe painted the edge gold, but the white is ok, and the knobs, different look. The mirrors are overboard I’d say, but other than that, the white table is cute.
