first up was laurie, and now we’re super excited to show off the home of carrie siegel of two trick pony. both of these homes seem so liveable and fun, and in the same spirit of the fabulous stationery line the two friends started together in 2006. more images here, so be sure to check them out, and don’t forget you can always find all the sneak peeks here. [thanks, carrie! and to mary flatley for the great shots] -anne
[Above: This sideboard sits off to one side of our kitchen area. The large piece on the wall is a light box "Valentine" I made for my husband the year we got engaged. Each small envelope contains a description of one of my favorite moments from our relationship, starting with our first date. The stripes are mostly old-school Letraset graphic design tape. The framed piece is a note that I left for him while we were dating; he had it framed! Awww...]

Our living area. I made the hanging lamps from plastic fishbowls, mimicking the style of ’60s spun fiberglass shades. The black chair on the left is the “placeholder” until I find a vintage Eames lounger…in my price-range. A girl can dream!

Above the butterfly chair is a framed box lid from a set of magazines my hubs had shipped from England. We both loved the look of all the tape, hand-written addresses and overlapping labels. Bird painting (and custom cabinet) on the left by Scott Chasse.

My reading nook. During the summers, the entire window lifts out so I can catch a little breeze, and in the winter the pipes are toasty warm. The chair is one of the few pieces of furniture I brought with me when I moved up from Florida. It used to sit in my grandparent’s living room, so I have a pretty strong attachment to it. I made the slipcover from a Michael Miller barkcloth a few years ago when the original upholstery wore out. Both drawings by David X. Levine. Two-headed bunny by a Boston-area artist who’s name I can’t remember!

My workspace at home. My husband is responsible for the images tacked up on the wall behind my monitor; I love that he takes the time to put up things that will inspire me. The drawers on the right are covered with my absolute favorite pattern of all time. It’s the last remnants of a roll of vintage wallpaper that I purchased when I worked as a display artist. I still have a full roll of the same pattern in pink and purple; I’d love to get my hands on more in this color way!

The spaces in our building were carved out by artists from the ’80s until the present, so we don’t have much in the way of regular kitchen cabinets, and some of the “architectural details” are clearly derived from using whatever materials were available. Hence, we have a somewhat make-shift kitchen, but we lucked out with this open shelving. I lined the shelves with vintage wallpaper, and our dishes look great!.

Detail of the kitchen area. As much as I love grey, it’s fun to have brightly colored pieces in the kitchen. The Marimekko tray is one of my favorite things; it makes an appearance at every party. The small collage on the upper left was made by Laurie’s fiance, Jake. I love that it incorporates a BOS luggage tag. I’m quite enamored with this city, and it makes me think of coming home.

My twelve-year-old cat, Delia, on her favorite chair, enjoying the company of “Bear.” Both drawings by David X. Levine. . . Detail of one of the lamps I made from plastic fishbowls. The head is a “Best Friend Award” from Finland via Kiosk in New York.

LOVE IT! Congratulations, Carrie!! Your home is as wonderful as your designs!
Karly
I just took a look at their stationary line and love it! Especially the “somebunny told me.” To cute!
Congratulations Carrie.!!
I love the vintage details. You know how to create beautiful living and work spaces—I love jingle bath apples.
Your cards are what I want to send for all occasions.
Cheryl
What a lovely home! As charming as your stationary design…
Carrie would you let us know how you made the lamp from plastic fishbowls? Those are soooo cute!
oh I love that room with the couch. the ceiling is so awesome!
Hi coconutt!
I made the lamps about 8 years ago when I still worked as a visual merchandiser/window dresser. They’re actually a combination of plastic fishbowls and, um, fake hair extensions: blonde, brunette, and black.
To make the lamps, I drilled holes in the bottom of the bowl (one for the cord, and a circle of others for venting heat) and affixed the hair with layers of clear adhesive. It’s easier than it sounds, because the hair comes in wide, flat sections.
Once the hair is glued, you can fish a cord through the hole in the bottom and wire it to a socket!
Periodically, I have to give them a little “haircut” as some of the hair comes loose and starts hanging.
What a lovely home! I am particularly fond of the reading nook :) Also, would you mind telling us about your couch? It looks very comfortable but sleek!
your tray features one of my absolute favorite marimekko repeats. even the little tiny things in your home are wonderful!
where did you get your faux bois desktop wallpaper? so chic. great home!
I wish these photographs, although strikingly beautiful, could showcase what amazing people both Carrie and Laurie are. I am so deeply grateful to have such inspired people as friends, and am glad that the rest of the world gets to see their creativity and general awesomeness.
Great photos!
Actually the statue in the last photo is a Hymypoika award. (Hymy=smile, poika=boy) It is a recognition award given in elementary schools in Finland when the spring term ends, and is given for fair and polite behaviour. “The Hymypoika is friendly, helpful, hardworking and studious, just like a proper girl or boy should be.”
Hymypoika awards have been given since 1954. The original designer of the awards (there is of course also an award for girls: Hymytyttö) is Heikki Nieminen.
lookin’ good.
when are you gonna come down and do my place? it’s still a little bit empty looking…
Carrie — Your home was delightful on the day you married and it’s even more wonderful today. You were still a little girl when you first shared your art & talents with me. I knew then that the day would come when I’d see your name in lights!
the faux bois desktop caught my eye too!! Also, I spied a little “save the date” card to the far left of the monitor, and I am invited to that particular wedding…crazy!
Mer – thank you for your kind words! The nook is my favorite, too. As for the couch…I searched all over and finally found exactly what I was looking for at EQ3. The sides and back cushions are very soft, so it’s great for naps. Bonus: the couch was under $1000 with custom fabric AND delivery. Also cute: my brother, unbeknownst to me, bought the same style in a loveseat in grey velvet!
Debra – that Marimekko pattern is absolutely, hands-down my favorite too! Laurie has the dishtowel and I’m always tempted to steal it from her kitchen.
aLi – The wood grain pattern is from a book available here. Looks like it’s out of stock at the moment, but you can probably find it elsewhere, too. It’s great!
I love it all…it’s so cute and cozy – I also love the desktop wallpaper!
Not normally a vintage fan, but im starting to be convinced! Carrie: You’ve made a beautiful home..
(PS! I love that you also have includet a pic of your cute cat.)
oh this house is so cool! I want to live here, I love all the details and I love the little reading nook!!
Hello,
Where did you get the ‘flowers’ in the bottles in the final picture ?
Only you could make something stunning out of fishbowls and fake hair! You are amazing… x0x0
I LOVE the first photo! Everything else is nice enough, but the first photo is PERFECT.
Julie – can’t believe you’re coming to the same wedding! Laurie and I designed and printed the save the date, and I’m lucky enough to be friends with the bride and groom. :)
Cacamilis – the “flowers” were from Michael’s, a regular ol’ chain craft store. I was surprised to find something so striking in their dried flower selection! I like the way they echo the shape of the fish bowls overhead.
You have always had talent. We are proud parents and love you dearly!
Carrie!
How wonderful! Such an admiration I have for the ways you have used the gifts you have been blessed with! Keep up the good work…I’m honored to say I knew you when!
Aww, geez…Mom, Dad, Dan, Aunt Jan, Emma, Mari Lynn…you guys are making me blush! My family is here on the internet!
I’m so excited that I can say that I stayed there before it became famous!!
(And yes, Carrie really is that cool in real life, too.)
Great place! Thank you for taking the time to share with us; the descriptions were fun to read, too. Obviously a place filled with style, but heart and soul, too.
Yay! David Levine is friend of mine…so great to see his work in your beautiful home!! May I ask, do you live in Ft. Point? I used to work there–great neighborhood! :-)

Just FYI–a little shameless friend-promotion!
Jenn P., thanks for linking to David’s site! I’ll update and add a link within the flickr pages, too. He’s an old friend of ours, too, and I just LOVE his work.
We don’t live in Ft. Point, actually, but we’re not far. We’re at The Distillery in South Boston…right around the corner, sort of! :)
This is the cutest space! I adore you and your husband’s fabulous style and taste. Kudos!
xx
Choubelle
i like the white sideboard in the entry way with the glass protective layer. where is that from?
LOVE your home and that so many of the things are put there together by both you and your husband.
p.s. my husband and i jointly junk up our home, but not joint decorate.
i love cat-on-cute-chair photos!
Kristina – the white sideboard was actually a TV stand from IKEA. Super cheap! :)
Where can I get that dark wood wallpaper on the iMac?
Can you e-mail it to me at original resolution?
indeed! where can i, too, find that lovely wooden wallpaper?
great news! thanks carrie! i will look for something similar for my entry way or computer nook…or both!!!
Hi Carrie,
It is so nice to see pictures of your home (and kitty)! Just as I suspected, your home reflects your talent! Thanks for being such a great partner to Laurie – you are both so creative and compliment each other so nicely.
For everyone looking for woodgrain patterns: here’s a collection of download-able woodgrain images that would work nicely! You can use them for desktop patterns, or any other “wood” projects.
def-con x
I encourage everyone to generously use the PayPal donation button as well… :)
I miss my Pony friends!!! Your space continues to feature your love of black, white and gray… I think the splashes of color are always well thought and never too much. I love that you manage not to clutter the space, how do you do it?
Lil sis, the place looks great. Always loved the floor, the beams in the walls and the ceiling and all of your collections. who needs a kitchen anyway. Luv ya, T
Where did that Wood-grain plate come from, hanging in the kitchen?
I absolutely love your place, and as a finnish-girl i couldn`t believe my eyes when i saw the Marimekko chair and Hymypoika! That Marimekko pattern is called “Unikko” in finnish.
It’s really inspiring to see how creative people can make the best of even a makeshift kitchen. ;) Mine right now is tiny, and I’m trying to find a place for everything to go!
