as part of her upcoming show “terrarium” at the montserrat gallery artist karen gelardi is working on a collaborative book project involving readers and art fans everywhere. the project is designed to work with viewers to transform gelardi’s drawings into a sculptural installation through on-demand book publishing technology. viewers can select which of gelardi’s drawings they’d like to be included in the exhibit- in the form of a multi-page book. they then fund its production and receive a copy of “their book” upon the close of the show (karen’s goal is to generate a colorful, towering stack of books in the exhibit). i think it’s such a fun idea and if you’d like to be a part of karen’s project you can click here to check it out. you can also click here to view a video of the book prototypes. [thanks, karen!]

oh wow! blast from the past. i went to montserrat college of art my freshman & sophmore yr. and i would have LOVED this. what a great project.
This really looks great! I love it!
amazing! can’t wait to see the show…
Interesting…I love the storyline on finding new models to make collaborative installations affordable for the artists
Wow, I used to teach at Montserrat and have so many fond memories of its innovative exhibits! The galleries there are such a North Shore gem, and I’m proud that this project got a mention on D*S!
wow, these are great. montserrat is in my home town i used to work at that gallery. too bad i’m 3000 miles away now! i suggest keeping an eye on the galleries at montserrat, mostly the 301 and the student-run bear gallery. they’ve had some great exhibitions. (i worked one with dave kinsey, jeff soto, the date farmers, and aaron white in 2006.)
