since anne just wrapped up her first installment of her australian “regional roundup” with melbourne this week i couldn’t resist adding one more fantastic melbourne designer- miranda moreira of bride & wolf. while living in paris for six years (swoon) and working as a private chef to a french actor, miranda would spend her spare time making silhouette etchings in a printmaking atelier in the 11th arrondissement. her work in the studio eventually evolved into cut-out timber stencils and the rest of history- miranda starting producing these tiny cut-outs as portable pieces of art (perfect for tiny rented parisian apartments) and her friends loved them. after leaving paris for melbourne in 2005, miranda starting selling her silhouette cut-outs in a local shop called douglas & hope. after gaining a loyal following miranda decided to open her own online shop and, as of two weeks ago, she now sells her work online and shops internationally. there’s so much incredible design and artwork being created in australia and i’m excited to see another great artist sharing their work with the international audience. some us companies make it nearly impossible to ship to australia but the aussies are always so nice to ship to us here in the states. so, click here to check out miranda’s full collection of products and shop online. thanks to miranda for sharing!

Omg HOW CUTE are those nested owls?! (Would probably be easier to see on a darker background…)
I really dig these cutouts, especially the way she integrates the organic shapes and creatures.
No NYIGF coverage this year?
Lovely work and photos – a great alternative to the paper cut, as in wood these designs are much more stable and resilient. Yet, they retain that delicate, “papercut” feeling due to the amazing, intricate florals/vines etc. I’m so impressed! (want them all!)
these are exquisite! ive been so into cut-out anything lately.
Insanely, awesomely cool.
I LOVE your blog. Great stories, great ideas, great sharing. Most of all, I love your enthusiasm! Keep up the great work!!
Di
where is that horse wallpaper from in the first photo? i absolutely love it!!
that’s such a sweet story about her life as a cook turned artist.
these are so, so lovely
I agree about the horse wallpaper. Love it!
The wallpaper is a Florence Broadhurst design, I believe… look her up, she was quite prolific. Her biography is insane if you are up for a read (great pattern images too!)
These are wonderful…remind me a bit of Tord Boontjie.
Wow. Amazing life experiences she’s had, and AMAZING papercuttings! I am in love with these!
love the ANCHOR one!! Great post and very inspiring post indeed!
so perfect! Portable, useful, and beautiful.
….and I made the cushion!…..
Just beautiful!!! I love the owls!
I have two of these and they are even more beautiful in real life. They look gorgeous on a window too, I keep moving mine around the house as I can’t decide where they look best. It is Florence Broadhurst wall paper, the original eccentric Australian designer, whose patterns are just beautiful and timeless….
Oh wow, I’ve seen these in the Douglas and Hope shops and never knew they were made here in Melbourne.
Miranda is a genius, these images are sooo amazing, and so moving, Ifeel like alittle kid in fairyland
Thanks and merci to everyone for your lovely comments! And yes, the wallpaper is Florence Broadhurst, the ‘Horses Stampede’ print- so beautiful!!
Thanks again Grace! X Miranda
