new: moma design store holiday 08′

yesterday i hopped on the 4 train and checked out the new products that the moma design store will be selling this holiday season. there were some cool new pieces for the home, kitchen and dressing room so i thought i’d share a little sneak peek into their fall/holiday product line. the roundup continues well after the jump so click here for the full photo selection or just click “read more” below. i hope you’ll enjoy the preview! [all products will be available at the moma design store this holiday season, they will not be on the current website]

this incredible placemat (and the beautiful cutlery) was one of my favorite pieces at the preview. designed by chilewich, the mats may look like linen, but they’re actually made from a molded plastic material. and the beautiful cutlery is actually made from a titanium chemical reaction that dies the material- rather than requiring a coating to achieve the desired color.

who doesn’t love a good ombre? this graduated color hanging light is from tord boontje. the color is wonderfully vivid in person (i had a hard time with the lighting in the space, sorry!)

this magnetic wood grain memo board is going to be so, so big this holiday season. each of the tiny magnets looks like a wooden peg with a little green leaf hanging on a few of them.

i loved these magnetic, whale-shaped salad tongs from design house stockholm.

a portable hand-held espresso maker (from nielson innovation). need i say more? perfect for your on-the-go coffee-loving friends.

more products after the jump

left/right cufflinks from fredi brodman

dual deck of cards/flask

a soft room divider/curtain from 3form design

the mini treben vase from maibritt jonsson and pete

i loved these bent spoons that hang from the side of your cup

the light and easy to carry take away tray by klaus rath.

lotus plates and bowls by katsunori ito

the joy candle light by josefin hagberg

The Chilewich placemats look beautiful but, if you’re looking for functionality, they have holes! They remind me of the Pebbles rug from Chiasso, which I also think is beautiful but not quite functional.

[Then again, I don't actually think that dinnertime spills are a major problem unless you have kids so, for me, a placemat would really just be decorative, and the Chilewich would be fine.]

love the placemats and cutlery!! and you are probably right about that board, how cute is that?!

Kristan

You know, I wasn’t so sure about the placemats at first — won’t stuff get on the table through the holes? isn’t that the whole point of a placemat? — but my final verdict? LOVE IT. And especially the fact that it’s made from a molded plastic. (Makes it seem environmental, whether or not that’s true…)

Cutlery is neat too.

But my fave is that lamp. It’s exquisite!! That’s exactly the kind of thing I want for my house someday. (Wouldn’t exactly make sense — or fit — in my current condo, unfortunately.)

Kristan

(I totally sound like someone who thinks their opinion is the most important ever. … Doh.)

Haven’t the Tord Boontje lights been around for a long time? (by long time I mean 5 years or so) Or is it just that they haven’t been carried at the MOMA store before?

Valentina

oooh, i cant’ believe it… the graduated color of that lamp… since a long time i’m in love with that lamp also in total white. it seems so poetic!
and i like the linen placemat too.

Colin

Did you get a shot of the cutlery price tag? I would love to know how much it is going to be.
