La Mill is a coffee boutique that brings sexy back to coffee. The experience of being served La Mill’s gourmet coffee was best summed up recently by a food critic. It was served in a carafe protected by a black neoprene cozy. It was then gracefully zipped off by the waiter after brewing for a precise number of minutes! The dessert menu is something to the effect of the Blais’s Banana Scallops from Top Chef.

The somewhat over the top- but fantastic- red and blue crocodile leather interior was done by Rubbish. It is all balanced by the modern architecture (a nod to the Silver Lake Neutra houses just up the street).

On a recent visit, we were most impressed by the faux bois paintings by Sean Hageraats (srhla@sbcglobal.com). They’re made using limestone and plaster on masonite. The four panels had a slight shimmer to tie back into the “Rococo” styling of the boutique, but at the same time were the complete antithesis.

La Mill is very much an experience on the decadent side, but one not to be missed.
