this weekend: brooklyn flea + the d*s collective

this sunday, april 6th is the first day of the 2008 brooklyn fleamarket! i’m so thrilled to be a part of this fantastic community project, organized by the gang at brownstoner. every sunday from now till later this fall, a wonderful range of vendors will set up shop in ft. greene from 10am-5pm, rain or shine. in addition to a great collection of vintage sellers, clothing, food and accessories, i’ll be curating a section of the flea called the design*sponge collective. if you’re a reader of the site you’ll probably recognize the names of our vendors (artists like lena corwin (image above), sian keegan, wayne pate and many more) but it will be even more fun to recognize them in person! so if you’re in the nyc area this weekend please stop on by and say hi to these incredible artists. i’ll be out of town for this weekend but i’ll be back, manning the section, every weekend (or as many as humanly possible) for the rest of the summer. hope to see you there! a sampling of the incredible artists and products in the d*s collective are below. want to attend? click here for details.

Just wanted to say that I love that you’re spotlighting all these letterpress companies. I got engaged last month (just after you) and am currently most excited about establishing a design for our wedding. Thanks for all the inspiration!

What an exciting enterprise! Best of luck to everyone taking part – no doubt it will be a huge success. I hope to get over to NY this summer and visting the flea will be at the top of my “To Do” list

i am incredibly excited about this! i cannot wait to pick up some fantastic items on sunday!!

I dying to know where I can get the frames used in the John Murphy prints. I have scoured the net and can’t find them. Any clues?

john paints these frames to get the glossy look but i’m not sure where he buys them. you can shoot him an email via his site if you’d like more details :)

please take pics of the market for those of us who can’t make it to ny! i hope to visit later in the season.

G- sometimes you can find big frames like that at flea markets or thrift stores. Usually they are lightweight plastic! They look cheap and sometimes they will be dirty and/or ugly, but if you paint them they could look great. Hit the thrift stores!

Your site is absolutely lovely. Love all of the interesting things throughout.

i scored some great foxy and winston prints on sunday. what a great turnout!

Hi Grace, I was hoping you might know something about the sizing of Wayne’s t-shirts? I know you’re not really the right person to ask, but I’ve trawled his website with no luck, and sent him an email asking the same question, and no reply. I love love love them, but obviously want to know if any of the ladies’ sizes will fit me before paying the $20 shipping to Australia.
Thank you!

i’m afraid i don’t own any of wayne’s shirts but i’ll see them in person in a few weeks and will let you know. any other ladies own a wayne pate t?
