cave dwellers

jen bekman’s 20×200 project has really hit the ground running since it’s launch last year. bekman, a nyc gallery owner, opened 20×200 to offer affordable artwork that would be available in three sizes and three prices: small prints for $20, medium prints for $200 and extra-larger prints for $2,000. every tuesday and wednesday at 2pm 20×200 adds a new print and this week’s is a favorite of mine. created by rachell sumpter, ‘cave dwellers‘ is based on a real location in hawaii. rachell explains, “there is a tremendous cave on the coast of kauai where stumbling tourists willingly disappear into the cave’s darkness, illuminating their way with cigarette lighters. i wanted to recreate the memory of that scene with ‘cave dwellers‘. most of my paintings are begun from experience, from the elements of a memory. sometimes i like to let the specific elements of those experiences repeat in a new work, allowing them to simplify or clarify something from a moment.” you can pick up your own print of rachell’s work right here for $20, $200 or $2,000.

What an wonderful project idea. I’ve become such a huge fan of ACEOs for the very reason of them being affordable art so this is right up my alley.

this ‘cave dwellers’ image stopped me dead in my tracks. I bought a print instantly and can’t wait to get it home! Thanks for turning me on to Jen’s project and to Rachell’s work!

Cave dwellers, has a sense the realization of how small we really are.
Loved the art. I to have been to Hawaii and have taken a picture of a cave that walks you out to the ocean on the black beach in Maui.
Love the colors.
Good Luck with all your projects.
This the type of art worth purchasing.
