Love it – I did that with some mirrors in my new bathroom! I loved the $400 ones I saw in brocade home, and made these myself for a total of $90.

Sorry, but I agree with Evan. One consolation is that it’s white instead of the electric blue, chartreuse or nasty orange that have been resurrected, but were better left in the ’60′s. Unfortunately, the white makes the raised decoration almost disappear. A frame of this sort, in such fine condition, intact glass and all, is a rare find–and not often cheap. But, if we all had the same tastes, it would be a pretty boring world, right? I am glad the creator loves it…..that’s what is important since she’s the one who has to live with it.

I love to paint things white. Color is such a dominant design element that it can be all you notice about something. When you strip off the color, you pay attention much more to form and texture. At least that’s my theory!

it’s a neat collage idea, but I think it could use some friends, or a little more “sumthin sumthin” on top of that piano to make it not look so… lonely… ;) maybe if jennifer’s able to find even more vintage/antique frames and do them up for a mini collection – that I’d LOVE to see as a before & after & after!

I agree with the purists. The original was beautiful in itself. What a pity. Now it looks like every other design blog craft project.

hmm…. I have very mixed feelings on this. I think to look at the piece on it’s own in a fleeting moment, it looks really good.
However I do think it depends on the home. The original color was more old/classic/rustic feeling (like my home), the white makes it feel more modern — but what are you going to do with it when all white feels sadly dated? Maybe paint the floral details with pretty colors? paint it black? uuhhh… decoupage it with newsprint? I think you would start to loose the detail after all that time. Which would be a little sad.
Or maybe I’m wrong, and white truly goes with everything, for all time. It would look really good in a little girl’s room probably in any decade to come, even when the modern livingroom would never tolerate it, so perhaps it’s not a huge waste. hmm…

I loved the old finish on the frame.. the beautiful details don’t pop the same way with white, and the color of the original was so interesting..

oh, and with regards to the “what will you do when white is dated” comment, you could just dip this to strip the paint and it probably would return to it’s original form, though minus the beautiful patina
