She has some fantastic party/wedding dress examples in the window…and the price point is more like 2K (still pricey, I know!) — although I’ve seen lots of lace at the horrid NYC wedding dress emporiums this winter, too…

You should look at Melissa Sweet. She has really affordable and beautiful dresses. She uses lace and also just sheer fabrics and the way she mixes them are beautiful. Good luck!!

I love those–they have just the right amount of daintiness without being dowdy. Fun and elegant. I’d love to see those lace prints on different stationary formats, too.

I too loved a Lhuillier dress and couldn’t afford it. I have the luxury of having a seamstress for a mom so we went to the boutique, tried one on and she was able to find a pattern that was similar. You could try a local dressmaker and get your own Lhuillieresque original instead.

I am getting married too. I didn’t like any of the dresses besides the ones I could never afford. Then I found this dress

but it was sold. After that I didn’t want anything else! I especially love the back bow. So now I am having a local dress maker replicate it. And for well less than $1000!

An intimate wedding with loved ones is the way to go, you save money for the more important things down the road like, a house, car, money, etc. People get a bit crazy when it comes to weddings and end up stressing themselves out, which is not supposed to be. You have to be happy and remember why you are getting married in the first place. Remember Grace, have fun and take it easy,lol. :)

I totally understand what you’re feeling… though I was less interested in my dress & was trying to design the invites immediately. :)

If you can’t afford what you want, you might want to look into seamstresses- a friend of mine had a gorgeous lace dress made & it ended up being very inexpensive (the seamstress even was able to buy her fabrics at wholesale cost!), plus it was tailored exactly to her!

Ooh! Ooh! Wedding!! Mine was 2 years ago this month, and I really thought I’d want to be a wedding planner afterwards because there are so many options and it almost hurts to narrow them down. Pick your dress before the invitations; they shouldn’t match but they should have some common ground. Get a wedding dress you adore, but keep in mind it will spend the rest of your life in a box in a closet or under a bed.

I just got married, and went with a lace wedding dress by Clea Colet.
She has dresses in the 2-5K range. Her web-site doesn’t do her work justice. http://www.cleacolet.com She is a wonderful designer, works directly with the bride, and makes sure everything is perfect! I went with a french lace dress of her design but had her change the bodice to the Amsale dress I was waivering between. Anyway, she is worth checking out!

I made our wedding invitations. They were champagne cards with black lace straight across the front with a mint ribbon.. i love love love lace.

You could also check out the Christos collection which is designed by Amsale and not quite as expensive. They are just so beautiful and romantic….best of luck!
