bow and arrow (and lace)

ac and i are in the beginning stages of wedding planning right now so we’re still working on the bigger issues (when, where, how many people?). but of course, my head has skipped straight on to picking a wedding dress. and while i haven’t tried anything on yet, my mind always goes toward lace. of course, my mind also goes toward $9,000 lace dresses from monique lhuillier and amsale so i’m going to have to reel my lace-wishes in a bit. so perhaps in the meantime i’ll focus on these letterpressed lace cards from brooklyn artist julie soltz of bow & arrow. each card is printed on 100% cotton paper and is available in a set of 5 for $12 right here.

As soon as you said lace wedding dresses, that is where my head when as well.

I just photographed some beautiful dresses this winter, wish I knew where they were from. Happy hunting.

Love the cards above too.

Grace: for some beautiful lace (and other things), talk to the seamstress on Blue on Avenue A. She has some fantastic party/wedding dress examples in the window…and the price point is more like 2K (still pricey, I know!) — although I’ve seen lots of lace at the horrid NYC wedding dress emporiums this winter, too…

Those are gorgeous. And textured too? You most be SO excited to be in the beginning stages of wedding planning :) It’s the later planning with will be frenzied and a little tearful!

I also purchased these at the BUST Craft Fair – they were the perfect holiday cards and all of my friends loved them! I love the lace – she has many other great designs too!

Grace,

You should look at Melissa Sweet. She has really affordable and beautiful dresses. She uses lace and also just sheer fabrics and the way she mixes them are beautiful. Good luck!!

Elle

Oh these are beautiful! Lace is such a favorite of mine.

Maybe you’d have some luck finding a dress at theknot.com — it’s great for getting ideas and putting all of your ideas together! Not to mention, it’s a stunning site : )

Best of luck!

I love those–they have just the right amount of daintiness without being dowdy. Fun and elegant. I’d love to see those lace prints on different stationary formats, too.

I too loved a Lhuillier dress and couldn’t afford it. I have the luxury of having a seamstress for a mom so we went to the boutique, tried one on and she was able to find a pattern that was similar. You could try a local dressmaker and get your own Lhuillieresque original instead.

Beautiful! I’ll have to buy two sets – one for using and one for saving for myself :)

An intimate wedding with loved ones is the way to go, you save money for the more important things down the road like, a house, car, money, etc. People get a bit crazy when it comes to weddings and end up stressing themselves out, which is not supposed to be. You have to be happy and remember why you are getting married in the first place. Remember Grace, have fun and take it easy, lol. :)

Nicole

I totally understand what you’re feeling… though I was less interested in my dress & was trying to design the invites immediately. :)

If you can’t afford what you want, you might want to look into seamstresses- a friend of mine had a gorgeous lace dress made & it ended up being very inexpensive (the seamstress even was able to buy her fabrics at wholesale cost!), plus it was tailored exactly to her!

Ooh! Ooh! Wedding!! Mine was 2 years ago this month, and I really thought I’d want to be a wedding planner afterwards because there are so many options and it almost hurts to narrow them down. Pick your dress before the invitations; they shouldn’t match but they should have some common ground. Get a wedding dress you adore, but keep in mind it will spend the rest of your life in a box in a closet or under a bed.

Hi Grace,
I just got married, and went with a lace wedding dress by Clea Colet.
She has dresses in the 2-5K range. Her web-site doesn’t do her work justice. http://www.cleacolet.com She is a wonderful designer, works directly with the bride, and makes sure everything is perfect! I went with a french lace dress of her design but had her change the bodice to the Amsale dress I was waivering between. Anyway, she is worth checking out!

Ms. Tabitha

So… wait, what dress are you going to pick? Because they’re works of art too! Especially Monique Lhuillier…

Sorry – I’m nosey! Even though it lasted only a year, being a wedding planner was so much fun!

Leah

I made our wedding invitations. They were champagne cards with black lace straight across the front with a mint ribbon.. i love love love lace.

Lisa

You could also check out the Christos collection which is designed by Amsale and not quite as expensive. They are just so beautiful and romantic….best of luck!

Karen

Oh, so on your wavelength If I had not eloped, letterpressed cards by a local artist as well as Monique Lhuillier would have been my route also… Enjoy planning your wedding!
