ac and i have talked about getting a dog for a long time, but until we have more space and a yard for a dog to run around in- we’re going to have to hold off. but if i did have a dog, i would totally be one of those people who commission paintings and photos of their pets (our cats would never sit long enough for a photo or sketch). and one of the artists i’d start with would be stevie howell. based in brooklyn, stevie recently left a job in jewelry design to pursue pet portraiture full time. she sticks to simple backgrounds so the animals’ face and personality can shine through. i love the samples she sent over so i thought i’d share some here. i know a lot of you have pets in your life so if you’re looking to celebrate them in a special way, click here to contact stevie. enjoy!

yeah, love animals! My cat won’t stand still long enough even to be photographed, so I have many pics of the back of her head, and her rear end slinking off into the sunset…
um, but off topic a bit, I love that duck egg blue wall in these pictures. What’s the paint do you know?

Thanks for giving a link to Stevie’s website! I think her dog portraits are fantastic and the best I have seen- I can’t wait to commission her to do one for me one day!

Grace, don’t let the “no yard” issue deter you. If you can commit to a routine with your dog that includes regular walks and can live with dog hair on your clothes, rugs, furniture, etc., just go for it.

Totally late to this thread, but I wanted to chime in as well and say, if you want a dog, don’t let the yard deter you. You have one of the finest amenities in all of Brooklyn nearby: Prospect Park! They have off leash hours every morning and evening. It’s like dog wonderland every weekend morning. Check it out sometime!
