it’s only fitting that today’s first (yup, we have two today!) sneak peek belongs to artist amy ruppel because she was both the original inspiration for the sneak peek column and is my gracious host while i’m in portland this week! i can’t wait to have dinner at her new restaurant (along with her husband randy) cava and check out all of her insider haunts. in the meantime, she’s sharing a little insider sneak peek into her brand new studio space today. full of light and beautiful little vignettes, it’s a great way to see how amy works and what she keeps around her for inspiration. as always you can click here for full sized (and additional) photos of amy’s studio, or click “read more” below to see many more photos after the jump. [thanks to amy for sharing- and for hosting me this week!]

I love the danish owl. I must have one for my collection!
i love the little birdies on the wall above the bunny calendar!
Welcome to Portland, Grace! Amy’s studio is lovely. So many little things to look at!
What a coincidence, I was literally just looking for a place I can buy prints of Amy’s online. Unfortunately, I was too slow to catch her fabulous print on Tiny Showcase last week…*sob*…
I’ve always loved the use of saw-horses as table legs. Hope you’re having a grand time!
Thanks to Amy for sharing her studio space – and lucky you for having her host you :)
I’d love to know where those grey sofa/sectional pieces are from in photo 3 – I’m looking for low sectional pieces with metal legs and those look perfect.
Have a great Portland week!
What a great space… I love the banjo-playing squirrel on a swing! Where can I find one?
Oh, where did that orange desk come from?! It’s so cool!
Great sneak peek! It’s fun to see our design heroes’ spaces. Thanks.
That’s so great to see she has a new fabulous space! I have 3 of amy’s pieces and I bought one for my sister as a gift. I love LOVE her work!
What a great space – and what a pity she chose to hang that poor deer on the wall. Amy’s very talented, and I’m not judging her. I just don’t think hanging some hunter’s “trophy” on the wall makes a design statement – at least not one that interests me.
Beautiful studio! Great inspiration!
What a great studio – full of inspiration!
So inspiring and full of life. Thanks for sharing!
Hi!
I am here answering your inquiries:
1) the dark grey sofa sectional pieces are from CB2. It was a floor sample from Crate & Barrel, so I’m not sure which one it is (sorry!) I have the chaise portion at home.
2) The orange desk is the Trig desk from CB2 (can you tell I like CB2?)
3) the banjo playing swinging squirrel is a sweet painting by Susie Ghahremani that I got from her amazing show at Giant Robot in San Francisco
4) deer head – I knew there would be some negative comment about it (my mom used to say if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all, but oh well)… being from the Midwest, I miss not seeing deer everyday. I draw this deer a lot as well to revere it. And until I can see a live one around at my country home somewhere, this will do.
5) danish owl – Search Denmark ebay, or Sweden Ebay. I find great things there!
Thanks to every one for there kind comments! I love having this work space after 7 years of working from a dark basement. It’s full of light and endless possibilities…

I love the deer head and the antlers on either side. Where did you get them? The Bowery hotel has a whole wall of them in their lobby bar. LOVE IT!!!!
I love the little painting of the squirrel rocking out on the swing!
Amy!
Congrats! You have done so VERY VERY well since we worked together! My daughter Heather and I both get excited (still) when we see your name in print!
EVERYONE: Amy’s not only a wonderful artist, but she is a WONDERFUL person as well!
