before and after: christine’s studio

studiobefore.jpg
christine at chocolate and steel sent over this great home studio before and after. christine explained, “i work out of my home, aka the far left corner of my living room, as i warmly refer to it. i recently undertook the challenge to clean it up so my living room/dining room can be nice places to be again.” the result is a colorful, clutter-free space that i’d be happy to call my home office. thanks to christine for sharing!

so lovely. those orange panels are so great… where are they from? (and the dogs! look at those great dogs!)

Amy

Your color choices are so vibrant and fun! I especially love those orange panels too — how are they suspended? They look like they are floating at the top!

Julie

Wow, what a difference. I bet it feels so much better in there. Looks like a happy place to be. Now you just need to have some fun recovering those great chairs! An over zealous kitty? But what a beautiful shape they have! And I love the border near the ceiling. Nice job, Christine!

I also love the orange perforated panels. In general, the color scheme is inspiring and cozy. I also love the furry dogs…

Jennifer

Great job! I desperately need to do this with my office. Where did you get the storage cabinet?

Barbara Gregg

Very stylish, great light, great color, clever use of space!!

Jamie

I love how bright and colorful this room is! The attention to detail is beautiful, particularly in the border and color choices.

Oh, man, I’ve been wanting those orange curtain panels from Ikea but haven’t had a good use for them. The ‘after’ looks great!

Alicia

is that lovely rug from Anthropologie? I had my eye on that one…

hmm.. i like the chairs as they are.. i was actually wondering if they were done that way on purpose… and if so, how?

Love the transformation.

I absolutely love the room. The color combinations are uplifting, inspiring and calming at the same time. Very fun & unique… and the colors really pop.

Those turquoise chairs are gorgeous! Wherever did you find them?

Chocolate and Steel

Here’s where it’s all from:
The cabinet with the glass doors – IKEA. It’s actually a wardrobe closet. I believe it’s the PAX system. You can design exactly what you need.

The orange panels are from Ikea last year (maybe even the year before). I loved them, bought them, and had no use for them for a long time. They are actually nailed into the ceiling.

Our apartment was built in 1927, so I can’t take credit for the crown molding. It’s one of my favorite parts about our apartment.

Oh the chairs…. I love them. We found them left outside by our neighbor who was moving. We are looking for a good (aka inexpensive) upholsterer to redo them. Yes, it was an over zealous kitty… I think a few of them. If anyone knows of an inexpensive upholsterer in Los Angeles, please email me. I would be so grateful.

The rug is from Anthropologie. I have worked for them for 10 years, so you will recognize a lot from there.

Thanks for all the compliments!

Penny

Very well done! As someone who has a studio as well as having taken over the sofa and the kitchen table, I can appreciate the need for a visual ‘foot down’! I love love love the turquoise chairs, they’re like wingbacks from a Chuck Jones cartoon!

Hey! This caught my eye (great space and colors) and then I saw it was from CHOCOLATE & STEEL– I LOVE their stuff. My friend gave me a bracelet for my Birthday and it’s my favorite. I have bought 2 more pieces on ETSY. It’s so unique and fun. Their website is http://www.chocolateandsteel.com/
Now I love their office!!

Thanks for sharing. I’m moving from a huge two bedroom +office to a 1br (if I am lucky 1+br). The idea of having my work space in my bedroom terrifies me. Your space has inspired me! I have been wondering about putting panels in the living room. Love the panels…I am a big fan of just nailing stuff to the wall. It can look surprisingly fancy :)

Marina

The space is great! I love what you have done (what with toddler, dogs and vintage apt!). I think you should work your way upstairs!

Erica

i love the room and just love the panels! Can anyone share any advice as to how to do a diy version of the panels with perforated holes?

deneise

Wow…your work area looks amazing! The color, the warmth, the fun, makes me want to snuggle up on your couch with a bowl of rainbow sherbert and watch you work. Thanks for inspiring me to add a little color in my life!

Somehow I missed this before but followed the link from Etsy! Love it. Your dogs are great too!

Jenalyn

Love everything! This makes me want my own jewelry design studio even MORE.

Btw, my websites need some work. I have a store on Etsy too, but it’s empty atm :T
