lindsay stetson thompson of mstetson design sent in this great before and after project from her kitchen. inspired by this d*s post, lindsay took down the wallpaper that once existed in her kitchen (see below) and created this gorgeous chalkboard with all different patterns drawn in chalk. the possibilities are really endless with an idea like this- i’d love to invite local artists to come over and each do a small chunk. thanks to lindsay for sharing!

I love this idea of chalkboard walls in kitchens! I’m always writing little scraps of notes and reminders, loosing them. My 5 and 2 year old kids would enjoy it too! Do you recommend the spray paint, or brush on chalk paint?
Looks fantastic!! where can I get chalkboard paint?
I’ve been kicking around the idea of chalkboard paint in my house. These photos really inspire me.
Home Depot carries this. Perhaps i’ve bought the wrong kind, but it never works as well as one would expect.
funny, my name is Tiffany and my birthday is March 5, too.
I have painted the pantry door in my kitchen with chalkboard paint. This is really easy and every who visits loves it and laughs when they my plans for the week written up there.
I’m so pleased that you all enjoy my kitchen too! It is my favorite room now, even if it is teenie! Thanks, Grace for posting on it!
I primed with a magnetic primer (make sure to mix up well) and then painted about 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint (both of which I purchased at Lowes). I have never tried the spray paint, but it seems like it would be great for a smaller item.
I uploaded a little “how-to” here: http://www.mstetson.com/mstetson_chalkboard.pdf if you are interested!
ps. happy almost birthday, Tiffany!
I am so pleased that you all enjoy the kitchen as much as I do! Thank you Grace for posting!
I painted a few coats of magnetic primer (mix well) and then 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint (both from Lowes) and have had no problems so far. The magnetic primer is not the strongest, which I expected, but it does hold a magnetic clip with paper in it (see second picture).

Thanks again!
I’ve been tossing around ideas for my sewing room and just decided on doing part of a wall in chalk board. I can’t wait until I move into my studio and then I’ll have a whole huge wall for this!! So much fun and when I have kids, it will keep them entertained while I sew (:
This is such a good idea!!! For those of you with those ugly metal apartment front doors…I have painted the back of mine with black chalkboard paint which is perfect for leaving myself notes, grocery lists..etc & it’s magnetic so it is also the home to all my invitations and friend’s baby pics!
I’m a long-time fan of using chalkboard paint all over the house. Coincidentally, I did a recent post on transforming plain slab doors into blackboards.
My young son loves the blackboard door, but people of all ages love to draw and write on a blackboard.
I’ve always found it extremely useful having a blackboard near the phone for taking messages.
This is one of those ulta easy projects that I will continue to use in every home.
I like to use Benjamin Moore’s Chalkboard paint and apply it with a sponge roller.
I was thinking about doing this last year, but opted against in fear of endless spots from the sink, stove and prep area.
I’d love to hear how it wears in a busy kitchen!!
