I purchased a fairly original and intact 1957 rancher style house in 2007. My parents just gave me all of the furniture I grew up with. One being a Kofod curved back chair, without rockers. They also gave me all the 50′s modern era mahogany furniture that they purchased from Sligh Furniture, Milling Road, and Baker furniture co. There is also a couple of Kindel furniture pieces. All is solid mahogany, cherry, or oak. All has the 50′s modern age design.
All of the Sligh pieces were part of a “Scandinavian look” that they introduced in the mid 50′s, and was featured in a trade magazine called; the Stylist. What I like so much about the furniture is that it has Cain as accents on the coffee table, end tables, and bookcases. The rest of the furniture is beautifully grained. There are two chairs that my folks purchased from a furniture showroom called; DreamHouse Furniture. The Kofod chair was one of them. The other chair has a curved back, and modern lines, with a red webbing seat.
I am very fortunate that my parents kept everything, and stored it in a safe environment for over 30+ years…thus I was able to furnish my 1957 home in a vintage original 50′s era, at no cost to me.
They even saved their old dishes, cookware, ash trays, clocks, wall art, lamps, rugs, clothes,hats, shoes, books, radios,cameras, one black and white TV, an old 50′s lawn mower, patio furniture, 50 year old lawn gnomes, cement bird bath, a really neat Eames atomic coat rack, and my 1960 Red 26″ Schwinn girls bike with all the accessories. ( it cleaned up really well, even the horn and lights work) I thought it had been long gone.

Dad is hanging onto his 1932 Chevy convertible Hot Rod he built in the 60′s, and his pristine 1965 Harley Davidson, which all of us 4 kids are fighting over who’ll get to have them.

My younger sister has grabbed onto all the old MOD stuff from the 60′s and early seventies…( which I don’t care for that much)

Mom and Dad were savers, and didn’t believe in getting rid of things. I can’t thank them enough!

The rocker looks incredibly comfortable. I love the picture of the little boy in the chair :) I bought a child’s Knoll chair for my little girl’s playroom from Officedesigns.com and its absolutely the cutest and most contemporary thing in our house–and its for my 11 year old! I saw the rocker at officedesigns too, so I might consider getting one for myself…

(bought it at http://www.nest-living.com) thanks for the recommendation Morgan! now that it’s in my little girls room I see what she means. It’s really cool. Much nicer than the Herman MIller ones. thanks!
