On the weekend I like to do at least one creative activity with the kids. Before Christmas our crafting and cooking was all gearing up for the Big Event. We collected a branch and made our own Christmas tree and decorations. We were all so proud of the results. We spent half a day bushwalking looking for the perfect branch, then we sprayed it with silver paint. And while it dried we made decorations.

We also made gingerbread cookies – this was so fun, messy but easy – with delicious results. We even made some to hang on the tree.

Then just before Christmas we headed off to the beach and left our beautiful tree behind. Never mind because getting away from the city hubbub of holiday season was such a fabulous idea. We all relaxed and spent all day in the water or reading or exploring.
